I also really like @azeline-d‘s idea of the elderly patients hands. I was thinking about it some more today, and I had an idea.
What if the story was a string of short scenes, each maybe 1-5 paragraphs long, that shows snippets of things a granddaughter is doing with her grandmother. Each scene would skip a little farther ahead in time, with both of them getting older in each one. The scenes could show some kind of ordinary tasks that they’re doing together (for example, grandmother helping her learn to walk, bake cookies, or pull weeds; tending to her when she gets hurt; braiding her hair; preparing food for her; taking pictures of her at her wedding; etc.), but the focus would be on the grandmother’s hands and how she is using them to do ordinary tasks to serve her family, and how her sacrificial service is beautiful. The first scene could maybe be when the granddaughter is little and the grandmother is teaching her how to fold her hands to pray, and the last scene could show the granddaughter (now grown) holding the grandmother’s hand and praying with her in the hospital as she is dying. But the main thing would be that in every scene, the focus is on the grandmother’s hands.
I’m not sure if that fits into “a very dramatic setting” enough, but I thought I’d throw it out there.
What do you think guys? Which ideas do you think we should go with? We should try to choose something and figure out the finer details sometime in the next few days. 🙂 (And if worse comes to worse, we can always fall back on the pizza comedy. :P)
