You had to stop the scene there?? lol.
I felt the same way as I wrote it, but then I counted the words and…yeah, we won’t talk about that. xD
Wren baffled me a bit more than Talia, I think. At first, I thought port bar that her father owned, grew up working around sailors and the restaurant – but the well-traveled part got me b…

Hi Noah! @noah-cochran
The three hundred word limit is very tough. Can we get a vote for upping it to 350? 🙂
Here’s my second character part:
(349 words)My name is Will. Not that you’d care. I don’t know why I keep getting jerked back here. Wherever this place is.
Now that Dad is dead, I never wanted to come back here again. I saw him…[Read more]

Excellent character voice is extremely hard to pull off, and so like I do with all hard things in life, I decided to make a game out of it.
It’s a joke.
I’m kidding.
Mostly. 😉
Anyways, to the point. Character voice makes everything from dialogue to normal scenery descriptions pop off the page, but, for me at least, it is a very difficult…[Read more]

Joshua Scheele replied to the topic What is the most bizarre creature you have created for your WIP? in the forum Fantasy Writers 4 years, 1 month ago
Those are awesome creatures! My world has a lot of dragons and dinosaur-inspired creatures.
Most of my evil creatures are all lab creations, created for a great war. The evil side lost but their creatures melted away into the shadows and have spread across the world.
One particular favorite is my Kragvora. They are humanoids…[Read more]

Hey Jared!
Its an interesting idea, and the skeleton of the story is great. I think something you would need to ponder, however, is the biblical themes you portray. Now I know no novel, written by a Christian or not, is imperfect, but it would do Christian authors well to portray biblical truth as best they can.
Now maybe you…[Read more]

I am so glad Rose joined in here. She has amazing worldbuilding skills with a cast of complex characters, and she also has a complex system of tribes and kingdoms. *waves* Why hello hello @jared-williams! I second what Mr. O’Brian over there said about Rose – she’s a very swaggy individual with highly entertaining characters (*cough cough* Liorah *cough cough*) and quite the complex world-building.…[Read more]

Hi Jared (@jared-williams)
Man, that resonates with me as well! My Blog began as a kind of quasi-devotional using a loose fantasy story as a vehicle, but soon I learned that breaking the fourth wall, and attempting to use the first-person narrator didn’t really work and made the going difficult. The story needed to be front and center. Th…[Read more]

Hey Jared,
Man, I love your ideas and website. I need more worldbuilding in my WIP, but from your website, it looks like you are well on your way.
I am finding fantasy to be a fun way to explore larger thematic concepts. I think fantasy has had a resurgence as a genre since the LOTR movies were made. My wife and I had th…[Read more]

Hi Jared,
I totally agree. I am a writer-in-progress with much need of help from fellow authors and readers.
This is my second pass through the “editing” of my WIP, and I’ve taken to doing dramatic recordings of it with atmospheric background and music. I think it helps me visualize not just what is going on in the foreground,…[Read more]
