Thanks you both so much for the advice on this! Quite a few people who are active and successful self-published authors recommended my line editor, and he’s edited books that sell very well. I believe he even edited a few bestsellers in the LitRPG genre. I can’t speak on my developmental editor though =P

@j-a-penrose Okay! I’m excited about this and would give it my best shot to start off, but I’m so confused on what the story is…

@j-a-penrose Oh dear. XD I need to watch myself with more care, or I’ll get on people’s nerves.
@ariella-newheart I love poems about friendship, but I find them so hard to write! It’s hard not to be cliched in poetry about love whether it be romantic or otherwise.
@trufflehunter Have you written any more fantastical poetry? I just realized that…[Read more]

Also, @j-a-penrose was it intentional that your introduction to this thread was shorter than the ones to the other biomes? xD

Not that I had in mind when writing the piece; it was originally just intended as a one-off focusing on a couple the characters I imagined would be a big player in the world’s setting. I had intended for Harn to be a conqueror in the vein of Napoleon, albeit with the initial motive of “seize power to put a stop at injustice” with a…[Read more]

I think I wrote a short story a while back- would that be a good place to have it moved to?

@j-a-penrose I love this!! What can we do in the biomes? Discuss things? Do character chats? Ask for advice?

@j-a-penrose I hate writing short stories for school, because there’s always a pathetically small word count that I have to work with o-o
@taylorclogston I published the first one last year in January, but it definitely wasn’t ready for it. I’ve been rewriting it, and the story has transformed ever since then. I’m planning on republishing the…[Read more]

Steward of the Pen started the topic A Church Poem in the forum Critiques 7 years, 1 month ago
Hello everyone!
I recently ran into a school assignment where I had to write a concrete poem about a church. I started with no idea of where I was going with it, so I was kind of surprised at how it came out. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and critique is very welcome.
Here’s the link to the document.
(Sorry the font is so small. I was trying…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Thanks! I’ve been struggling with it. The scene is there, in my head, and I know exactly what is going to happen, but I’m having the hardest time getting it into words. At one point I actually blindfolded myself so I wouldn’t keep editing as I went, but somehow I’m even more stuck. xD I had unexpected success with a poem, though! I’m…[Read more]

I won’t be able to get on this thread when I’m actually writing, but this week I’m hoping to finish the first chapter of draft one of Dahop’s Ember, work on a grammar system for the Kumquari language, and brainstorm for a short story (I really want to enter the SE contest, but I don’t have any ideas yet).
@j-a-penrose Oh my goodness, your poor s…[Read more]

Have you ideas for the second and third book? Would it be better to combine all the storylines into one book?
I don’t know. I probably could combine them, and it’d definitely be cheaper to buy one cover than three, but series are sooo much more marketable than standalones. A trilogy of novellas would be much better to market than a single…[Read more]

Oh, yes, I know that it’s “you,” I just wondered if there were any special rules for it and how the style works differently than third, first, and omniscient. How show-don’t-tell applies, and things like that (sorry I wasn’t more clear).
