Taylor Clogston replied to the topic Writing Life: Typing vs Writing by Hand in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 7 years ago
@j-a-penrose I write flash fiction by hand and type out everything else, because Scrivener is just too useful not to use (and I can type eight times faster than I can handwrite). I do enjoy editing by hand, though. Nothing meets the satisfaction of a margin note or a crossed-out line.

Taylor Clogston replied to the topic Writing Life: Self Publishing vs Traditional Publishing in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 7 years ago
@j-a-penrose I almost solely write novellas, which are pretty much the worst length for traditional publishing. Usually too long for lit mags, and usually too short for big houses. If I ever have something long enough to submit to an agent, maybe I’ll try that route, but I feel I’d still be more comfortable doing it all myself if I still have to…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Glad to know rambling is ok here (You’ll find I tend to do it a lot :P)
I’m quite new at this whole “Writing books” thing in general, never even though about it till a few years ago, so I’m welcome to any and all advice ๐

Ariella Newheart replied to the topic Writing Life: Why Write? in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 7 years ago
@j-a-penrose I write because it’s something I love. Name anything I do on a daily basis and I’ll most likely say I prefer writing. That’s probably not something to put on a job application, though. ๐ Sometimes I worry where I’ll be in ten years. (I dislike any form of math, and science does not appeal to me.)
I also write to communicate. That…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Thank you for the welcome ๐
I admit, Iโm a bit unsure of myself right now, but I know that will pass.
I like to write teen fiction mostly…. but I dabble here and there in other things.
Sorry if Iโm rambling. I have no idea what Iโm doing, or if Iโm doing it right.

@shadowwriter161 Hi and welcome!
@j-a-penrose there gave you some great advice… sometimes we forget what was like to join in the first place and have no idea what was going on.
Are you writer? What kind of things do you like to write?
I hope Story Embers isn’t to overwhelming at this point! Feel free to tag me if you have any questions!

Julia replied to the topic Writing Life: Self Publishing vs Traditional Publishing in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 7 years ago
@j-a-penrose I kind of want to try both, I guess. See what it’s like through my own experience. I’ll self-publish some books of my own, get experience, then try and traditionally publish. It’ll probably take me a long time before that second part actually happens, but someday! 😜

Julia replied to the topic Writing Life: Typing vs Writing by Hand in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 7 years ago
@j-a-penrose I usually just type. I can’t write by hand because it’s way too slow. I’ll lose my train of thought easily, my hand gets sore, and it’s not even that long when I finally type it up. It’s hard to read my own handwriting sometimes as well. I like to separate my outlining/plotting process from my writing process by handwriting during the…[Read more]

Julia replied to the topic Writing Life: Why Write? in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 7 years ago
@j-a-penrose I wrote at first because I wanted to create an amazing world – so for escape, I guess. But now, I’m writing as well to teach a lesson through my characters. They change over the course of the story, and learn the theme. A theme that I want this poor, broken, modern-day-world to learn. ๐

@j-a-penrose I think all of our first writings were terrible. But, hey, everyone has to start somewhere.
That sounds cool! What are some of your favorite soundtracks?
@noodle-mum Those all sound really neat!

Good writing, guys! It looks like it was a slow week for a lot of the guilds, but that’s okay. Come July we’ll go crazy and make lots of progress!
@j-a-penrose Ahh, Jess, we all know you’re competitive. Don’t try to hide it. ๐ (But I am too, so let’s win. xD)

@steward-of-the-pen – Nice, that does seem relatively easy! And you don’t have to walk her. xD Blu sounds adorable. I think I might get a parrotlet, if I can convince my parents of their joys and benefits. ๐ What kind of sounds does she make? Can she talk?
@j-a-penrose – Mainly for piano, because I’m the most comfortable with it and I love it so…[Read more]

I personally think that Tahir’s writing is amazing, but there are parts that I wish would have been left out. It seems as though she is trying to force romance where there shouldn’t necessarily be any. Luckily she just hints at it and doesn’t force it upon you. I would definitely recommend the books.
