@j-a-penrose I’ll try to do this π
I went to 508 words, but here it is π
She hid in her oversized sweater as all eyes fell on her. Sweat dripped down her neck below her ponytail, and her heart beat quickened to the speed of a train.
βAmanda?β the teacher repeated her name again. βDo you know the answer?β
Donβt look at her, Amanda be…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Thank you so much for doing this! It’s much appreciated. π
This is a little thing from a scene that will happen in my WIP Beautiful Murder (which I talked about last week). I don’t know if I’ll use this piece exactly, since I’m not there yet, but it is kind of what’s going to happen. It is a little more than 500 words, but I hope…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Thanks for the summary! Here’s my thoughts:
- When we say “large island”, do we mean something roughly the size of the combined landmass of earth? Are there other smaller islands somewhere else? (Here’s an idea; have a sunken city somewhere?)
- What about vocalizer technology for sentient dragons? It would make sense for at least the…

@steward-of-the-pen Yay! I’m not the only one on the edge of a 9th grade abyss of papers and lab reports. xD
Anyways I will still be around! Though I have a move coming up and a forensics competition so there might be two weeks where I’m absent. Hope that’s okayΒ @j-a-penrose β¦ if you want I can let you know which weeks those are.

@j-a-penrose Ha! I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, and I’ve seen snow here about three times.

@j-a-penrose That would be great. Some of the thread has lost me a bit at this point.
Sure! That’d be neat! I’ll participate if possible.

Yeah, physical descriptions are tricky to do without info dumping or sounding awkward. Here’s some things I try to keep in mind when I’m writing description:
- Relevance to story (be it theme, plot, or character)
- The character’s POV (there’s an article on thatΒ here if you haven’t seen it yet).
- And emotion.
In the last…[Read more]

From what I have learned, @coggleton, you would apply it to a series with the same basic principles as any one story. Only you have to stretch it out more. So each book of the series would have the 6 basic plot points and looking at the series as a whole you’d be able to see the 6 points as well. So the only thing you’d really have to be careful…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose, I’m in the same boat as @writercatherine, what with school starting back up, but I think I can come on at least once a week. I was considering posting more sections of my books for critiquing, and this might just be the nudge I needed. Someone hold me to it. π Even though the accountability aspect is a little stressful to me (like…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose WOW! I’ll try condescending my plot for my Fantasy WIP The Talisman into these categories, but be warned it may be lengthy!
1. Characteristic Moment:
Scheherazade, my MC, is introduced to Rahim, my other MC. Azade’s job is to keep her head on her shoulders, Rahim’s job is to take it off, and not with painkillers. In a moment of…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose Okay! I’ll try condensing my plot into what you just told us about. Do not be confused when I repeat some of the points. I have a 3-part book, where part 1 and part 2 are from two different character’s points of view, and jump back in time to show the story from two different sides. π
My WIP is (currently) called Poison Dragon.

This was a fantastic prologue! I agree with everyone else here–give me more please!! I love your general style of writing, although it seemed a little strange to me in some places. I think maybe it was because a lot of the sentences seem to be around the same length? I don’t know, I can’t quite put my finger on it. And I also agree with @j-a-penro…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose YAY! Go Parimi Alca! I check what’s going on every day, and I’ll definitely post as often as I can. Hopefully when 9th grade shows up I’ll still be as active and won’t drown in a sea of essays and lab reports. π
I agree with @esjohnson. When we’re all working together, it feels like family π *throws pine needles*

Thanks! Yeah, I think I agree about the laughing. I’ll tell Mokom and Yeath that they have to stop laughing so much about killing puppies. It was their idea, not mine π I guess that’s what happens when you develop characters too much…they do stuff without asking.

@j-a-penrose Thanks! Yes, everyone is so friendly. I’m very welcomed. Definitely! We wouldn’t be writers if we weren’t readers! (I suppose someone could be, but that’s pretty strange.) Oh, yes, I love that series. (As was already blatantly obvious.) Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger.
