Yesssss. I’m just starting to read about cognitive functions in depth and it clears up so much. It’s honestly not as hard as it seems on the surface of it so long as you have a good book giving in-depth explainations of how everything connects and relates.

@naiya-dyani They are fairly similar though there are distinctions like the ones mentioned. Those were mainly formed later as we focused on where we wanted to go.
How everything happened is a bit of a long story. But the basics are that Reagan was the owner. And had just got married and was really busy. And Josiah helped run things for a bit, but…[Read more]

Dragons! Yessssss. So for starters, I’m the girl on staff that everyone equates with a dragon. Secondly, my very first online discussion ever had to do if dragons were bad.
The short answer is no. Dragons in and of themselves aren’t evil in the least. Neither are snakes. They are merely creatures (and I do believe there used to live real,…[Read more]

Oooo, INTJ stuff. *grins and rubs hands*
First a disclaimer. Just because this is how I’d react doesn’t mean every INTJ would act like that. But it’s somewhere to start, I suppose.
1. How is she likely to act under intense pressure (like life-and-death pressure)? Probably very ‘in control’. Inwardly they might be freaking out. Outwardly they act…[Read more]

*studies my stories* I’d stay around 50/50. Part of it is that most of my stories are novellas. So there is a small cast of characters. Normal there is at least one female character and she has a role beyond romance or just being a female character. But in my fantasy I tend to write more men then women. Which is something I’ve been thinking about.…[Read more]

I see plenty of interesting characters at my job. I don’t know that I’ve put any into books yet, but there is plenty of inspiration at a fast food restaurant if one is just looking for it.

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it. And yeah. My best poems tend to come when I’m actually feeling the thing I’m trying to write about. Or rather… that is when I sit down and actually write them.

Hope Ann replied to the topic Week 22: Writing Life; Are You Called To Be a Writer? (Daeus Lamb) in the forum Weekly Theme Discussion 6 years, 11 months ago
I do feel that I am called to write. Currently, writing ranks pretty high priority in my life–higher than any of the other things I actually do. My challenge to myself recently is to make sure it doesn’t rank too high and swallow my life so that I forget to spend time and do things with people and friends. Not to mention taking care of myself as…[Read more]

Oh yes. Almost every time I write a book the character is struggling with some aspect about themselves, then partway through I realize it’s something I’m dealing with too. It’s… cool. And can also be very convicting.
I am under the firm conviction that writing is something that does us good as people, even if no one else were to read it.

Pops back into the guild. I just got home from a manager workshop for Culvers. So I’m back online. Also! All my major trips for summer are done so hopefully I’ll be on here more. 😉
This week… I just have a bunch of random, catching up things today. It’s gonna be fun.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Even though I was completely uninvolved. Sorry about that. *winces at self* I’ve been traveling most of the last month and a half so I have been following along with the stories and such. Hopefully I’ll be more involved next time. XD
Good job everyone!

Just a friendly note from someone who has gone very in-depth with MBTI and also uses it for understanding the characters he’s writing.
Studying the differences between extroversion and introversion, judging and perceiving, etc is a wonderful way to start. However, its application to writing characters is limited. Also, you may begin to wonder if MBTI is phony as you realize how often people break their stereotypes. This is when you should really study cognitive functions. The cognitive functions are /incredible/ at explaining how we process the world around us and making sense of why we so often break stereotype.
Many find the cognitive functions intimidating or confusing. If that’s you, these are the two best videos I know on the subject. They’re very thorough, accurate, and easy to understand.
Also, I don’t know enneagram very well, but if you do get into it, make sure to study the instinctual variants and subtypes. 🙂 They explain a lot that the basic theory leaves unanswered.
Thanks for the video links! I’m curious if you (or Hope) have any recommendations for books or resources on MBTI? I’ve only gotten as far as the 16personalities website and am overwhelmed by all the other resources available.
I appreciated the book The Building Blocks of Personality.
For articles, I tend to go to this site. https://www.psychologyjunkie.com/

Lovely article. 😉 You have come far, my padawan.
XD XD XD
*says nothing about the parts you basically rewrote for me*
That’s so cool though! The majority of writers are N’s, not S’s. But my brother is an ISFP and writes. And there’s always someone to breaks the ‘norm’. That’s what makes life so interesting. 😉
Enneagram took me a bit. I finally just got a whole book on it and read about it. I understand it decently now, but I’m still not as familiar with it as I am with MBTI.
Glad to be of help!
