Hey folks,
We’ve got a new guild war. This could be a good lesson in worldbuilding for speculative, historical, or contemporary authors…pretty much anybody.
Prompt: write a story in which two cultures clash.

Okay, folks, I want to talk about VILLAINS.
(Wow, so surprising.)
I was wondering why some villains have the power to terrify us while others are more like a tired and sarcastic uncle in background. I see lots and lots of complex & sympathetic baddies (Kylo Ren, Loki), and tons of deranged psychos (Thanos, Mother Gothel, the White Witch), but…[Read more]

Hey guys!
Three announcements concerning New Wessex.
1. I know sometimes community building, brainstorming, etc can be difficult on a forum. So I’m going to run an experiment. I’m going to create a group chat. You guys vote. It could be Facebook, it could be Hangouts. We’ll see how it goes. 😛
2. The guilds as a whole have decided to stop doing…[Read more]

@msqueen8 I think those are all the details we have, yes.
@germaine-han I love that idea! Because then, it would be extremely unique giving him TGA since it’s usually (but not always) in middle aged men! Having a young, high-spirited, college student held back by TGA would make for a very interesting twist!
As for names, I was thinking of…[Read more]

@germaine-han
I like the idea of the MC being a young sprightly college student. 🙂 -

I agree with Grace though, we should try to finish brainstorming this thing so we can get it done. So we need to figure out the name and details of our MC, what exactly is the crime, who was either murdered or kidnapped, and what was the motive of who did it? And any details I might have forgotten. 🙂

@germaine-han Writing in two genres is great, though if you ever start focusing on one, that might be where you have the most potential so that could be a good thing too.
@eden-anderson So it’s possible to have toxic relationships with books? 😂

@germaine-han I’m sorry I’m still a little confused, but let me see if I have this right.</p>
So basically we all talk about the prompt and figure out details for it, and then write one story as a group? Is that right? Or do we figure out the details we want and then each write a story with those details? Thanks so much for helping me out ^_^

Mysteries have so much potential. 🙂 It could take place anywhere, like in an old abandoned castle, or a spooky manor, and/or a locked room mystery, or anything as random as a lake. Literally anywhere people want to write it. But people should also be thinking about what kind of mystery they want to write about. Such as was something valuable…[Read more]

Dealing with multiple ideas
Most writers have more story ideas than they know what to do with. If you’re in this boat, you need to know how to cut through the clutter and make the right decisions. Here are a few things I’ve learned that have helped me.
Write everything down
Writing your story ideas down cements them in your brain. You’ll be ab…[Read more]
