E.B. Raulands started the topic Inside Out in the forum Story Analysis 7 years, 3 months ago
As you could probably tell by the title, this topic will be dealing with Inside Out, which unlike the other three analysis topics is a cartoon. But, if you’ve seen the movie, I think you’ll agree that is a very well-done and surprisingly powerful film. The question is, why is it so good? How were the writers able to take a film medium designated as a “children’s” genre and create something that even parents could relate to?
To answer that question, I’d like to propose structuring this analysis a little differently. Since we’ve been having lessons on Story Theory for the past few months from our wonderful guildmistress Jane Maree, why don’t we try analyzing this movie using the concepts we’ve been talking about? Let’s start with theme. What do you think the theme of Inside Out is? What are some of the focusing questions the movie brought up, and were there any characters who adopted one of those questions as an Experiment in Living?
(Note: The theme lessons are below if you need a refresher on some of these ideas.)
