Yes! A brave soul! *gives you pizza and offers you a seat*
Also, thank-you for telling me which genre you’re in. I just made the change in the original post so that you’re in the right guild house. -

Here’s the development questions we had on the original thread, as well as the information on the guild page, some of the other things we came up with, and maybe a few prompts to help inspire ideas…
What genre are we? (fantasy, sci fi, steampunk, fairytale, etc.)
“Meraki is a group of undercover operatives—split into separate genres of exp…[Read more] -

Long ago, in a land and time far from our own, the worlds were in chaos. Prose was destroyed by clichés, stereotypes ruled with iron fists, and the terrain was made treacherous by plot holes of every size and hazard. What’s worse, there appeared to be no end in sight for the tortures oppressing readers of every genre.
Then they came.
Like su…[Read more] -

*nods head* Ah, thank-you! Those are better explanations for her actions than a change in her beliefs. And that makes her actions consistent near the end of the movie because her belief in right and wrong would prompt her to go against her uncle. *sighs in relief that the plot hole has been filled*
Speaking of…[Read more] -

This post made me smile when I saw it. XD I’ll probably be singing “I Am Merakian” whenever I eat pizza now! -

Oh, it’s an acronym for Experiment in Living, which is basically a belief a character holds to and lives his life based off of. For example, our protagonist in the last guild war had the EiL that love has to be earned through being strong and fearless.
(If it helps, Jane Maree expounds upon the EiL in…[Read more] -

@jessi-rae
As I understood it, EiLs are the basis of character arcs, so I don’t think combining the ideas is bad. (Then again, I may be wrong; I’ll just put the link for character arcs here so we can reference it. 🙂 https://storyembers.org/forums/topic/story-theory-week-4-from-theme-to-character-arc/)

Just wanted to let you know that I double-checked the Word War form, and it does include poetry as part of one’s total word count. 🙂

I don’t think it could’ve been said better. 🙂 Another EiL I believe you alluded to in your first post is his attempts to become someone else in order to redeem himself. He tries this one twice, first at the beginning of the movie when he’s talking to his employer about becoming a gentleman, and second when he assumes the identity of…[Read more]

E.B. Raulands replied to the topic {Story Theory – Week 17} Journaling and Story Writing in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 4 months ago
I’ve always wanted to consistently keep a journal, but I’ve never been able to write in it faithfully for very long. However, I do keep notebooks where I write random notes and ideas about writing and life in general. Some items in my current notebook are poem drafts, lists of names and their meanings, CLEP practice question answers, personal…[Read more]

I agree with you wholeheartedly that the theme is redemption. More broadly, I think the focusing question could be “Can I be redeemed?” because Will not only tries to find a second chance and become good but also desires to undo his past sins through his deeds. It’s not so much that he doesn’t want to accept grace; his arc seems to…[Read more] -

Okay, so I read over the prologue and first two chapters again, and here’s some thoughts I hope will help…
1. I’m actually not sure about this one. Are you concerned that the characters are coming across clearly or that they need to be described more?
2. The description of Miss Lucorrel’s garden has a lot of details but also feels hurried,…[Read more] -

I was trying to get onto the blog just now, and the “Page Not Found” link came up. Then I tried the other tabs, and all of them did the same thing except for the Forum tab. Any idea why this might be happening?

If it makes you feel any better, I struggle with the same issues too. I don’t know if any of the answers I have to offer you will help you with where you are right now, but hopefully they’ll be good reminders at least.

Thanks for the info! I was a bit confused when I saw only four of the seven guilds present. 🙂 (I’ve also been looking for the new profile on the guild pages but haven’t seen it yet, so I didn’t know what her guild was called.) - Load More
