Hi Rose,
Consider it done. I will repost the Scene Questions with this one added.
Hi Linyang,
We absolutely love accents here and everyone dislikes their voice at some point. Rose is correct…
…but if she had let that stop her from giving it a shot, we would have missed such a blessing in what…[Read more]

Wow, this looks interesting. Too bad I really hate hearing my voice. Not sure what I would read, either, because of the different brand I write, heh… Nothing long and poetic like you guys. Just sentences.
I’d still love to hear it! That’s an interesting format to write in and I’d love to hear/read it! And I feel like that ins…[Read more]

Hi Joelle,
Whew! It has been a long and busy week.
Trying to catch up on responding to posts. So, let me clarify a little. These snippets of scenes are extracted from anywhere in a longer work, so they will often be introduced without context or backstory. We are just looking at the intrinsic value of a single scene, which m…[Read more]

I’m talking WIPs, outlines, notes, drafts, whatever. How do your organize it all? What tools do you use? Digital or paper?

Just gonna warn you! You might hate the book’s ending (my sister certainly did, and thus tried to rewrite the ending 😁)
Okay, thanks for clarifying that guys.
My sister believes squirrels are trying to take over the world; maybe that’s why dogs always bark at and chase them…[Read more]

Why thank you very much, Lily! I am happy to oblige. These 10 just bounced into my head like a bunch of floppy bunnies. I did visit your friend Hannah’s page and put in an additional two entries there in response to her challenge. I did love the water picture she put there.
Many blessings!-
Thanks so much! I saw your entries and I thought those ones were cool. Many blessings to you too!
(Floppy bunnies… huh, that’s a new one! XD We have wild bunnies up around our house; they don’t flop though…) XD

We used to have domestic cotton-tail rabbits, which were usually a little floppy when they hopped around on the grass. On my granddad’s farm, however, there were wild jackrabbits that were lean and had longer legs and sort of bounded through the fields, chewing on my granddad’s cotton. These were a menace. Have you ever seen the movie Watership…[Read more]

No, I haven’t seen either movies, though I read the book (actually, that was a while back. Probably needs a reread soon.) Who did the non-Netflix version of the movie?
Oh yeah, the rabbits in our backyard are pretty lean too. When they sit up on their hind legs, they almost look like mini kangaroos!

Hi Lily,
The version I saw was actually made in 1978. The animation is mixed with the Legend at the beginning appearing almost like Aztec art, and then shifting into more traditional animation with a blend of watercolour backgrounds. The main character “Hazel” is voiced by John Hurt.
Here’s the blurb.
Watership Down is a 1978 British animated…[Read more]

For Sale: Baby Shoes. Never Worn.
Lately, I’ve become obsessed with six word stories (and no, in case you were wondering, I didn’t come up with the above story; wished I did, though 😊. According to rumors, it’s a famous short story written by Hemingway, though, not proven).
I really like the idea of compacting a whole story just to a handful…[Read more]

@devastate-lasting
The monsters don’t eat anything thematic, necessarily, but their role in the story ties into the book’s larger theme. I’m about to start doing some revisions and will end up weaving in more thematic/symbolic significance!I can’t find the post in the thread, but I did get an email about America…[Read more]

That’s awesome! I think the cool thing about motifs is that you might not notice them right away, but on the second or third read, they become obvious.
Another book I thought of that does this exceptionally well is the Red Ribbon by Lucy Adlington. The book doesn’t have chapters, it’s split up into several parts, each n…[Read more]

I’ve heard of motifs before, but I thought they referred more to general things that are in different stories but tend to represent the same thing, like a wise old man or a ghost appearing. Maybe I’m getting it confused with archetypes.
You know, you may actually be right XD ‘Motifs’ was just my rough translation XD

Hello! I’m an avid fantasy writer and I’m so glad you asked about “fantasy types”, I’ve really enjoyed reading the results so far.
I write mainly historical fantasy. Either fantasy set in a (real) historical setting (like Fawkes, or Romanov, by Nadine Brandes) or sort of alternate universe historical fantasy, I guess. However,…[Read more]
