    For Sale: Baby Shoes. Never Worn.

    Lately, I’ve become obsessed with six word stories (and no, in case you were wondering, I didn’t come up with the above story; wished I did, though 😊.  According to rumors, it’s a famous short story written by Hemingway, though, not proven).

    I really like the idea of compacting a whole story just to a handful of carefully chosen words and leaving what’s unsaid to the reader’s imagination.

    So for fun, I’d thought it’d be cool to start a six word story challenge.  Feel free to join in.  Just please keep it clean.  (You know the drill.)  I’ll start and then tag some people.  Post as many as you like (and please tag friends too, so they can join!)  Also, a writer friend of mine is doing a caption challenge on her blog (six to fifty word story).  If anyone is interested, I’ll post the link below.

    Here’s mine:

    #1.  Too late.  Should’ve listened to him.

    #2.  I said, “Don’t light the match!”

    #3.  What Chicken Little said came true.

    #4.  Ship crashed.  All alone on Mars.

    Here’s the tags:

    #3. Sunken ship. Life under the sea.

    #4. Abducted by squirrels. They are nuts!

    #5. Paddling the canal. Oar bitten through.

    #6. Aslan returns. Train Station fades.

    #7. Wind whispers names of lost children.

    #8. Undeveloped film reveals future crime scenes.

    #9. Lost in woods alone. Sasquatch stares.

    #1.  The train left the station. But I’m still here.

    #2.  The bear woke up from hibernation and poked his head out the bear cave. Then went back in.

    #3.  squirrels don’t eat nuts anymore. they went nuts!

    @devastate-lasting No, I’m pretty sure I won XD

    This looks cool! Lemme try!

    1. “You’re too late. I’m so sorry.”

    2. “What? Why are you a squirrel?!” (Okay, that one’s dumb, but it’s amusing! XD)

    3. We’ve been lost a hundred years.

    4. They destroyed our home. I smile.

    5. He’s dead. But it won’t last.

    6. I never knew forests could scream.

    7. My cat purrs. A building explodes. (Try to make sense of that one! I can’t! XD)

    This was fun! Not as hard as I thought, it’s surprising how much you can imply in six words. I think 3, 4, and 5 are my favorites!

    Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?

    Sorry about that, Michelle and Lily.

    Cool, I’ve never heard of Picrew; is it like Canva?

    @michelle

    Thank you muchly for the acorn *wonders how I might eat it*  *shrugs and decides to bronze it and set it on a non-existing mantel in the house instead*  XD

    Ooo, how about this for the next squirrel story:

    “My pet squirrel collects bow ties”

    Hey, have you ever read the book ‘Miss Hickory’?

    @obrian-of-the-surface-world

    You should meet our neighborhood squirrels. We tossed out some birdseed specifically for our wild birds; but instead a swarm of squirrels came instead! They try to climb into the birdbath and use our flower pots as a ladder. XD
