@corissa you should probably know that I’m a Christian, I love writing poetry on any topic that inspires me, and I write fantasy and maybe in the future contemporary fiction. I love world-building, that much you can see under Introduce Yourself – Hello *shy wave*. I would recommend that Tashah Claymore comes onto this guild too because she, like…[Read more]

Okay, so at Realm Makers, I met these people from Havok (@gohavok on IG)
They publish flash fiction. And I would like to submit a piece to them. Specifically for their December prompt:

So, I was hoping you guys could help me polish up my submission. Here’s a link…[Read more]

Hey folks,
We’ve got a new guild war. This could be a good lesson in worldbuilding for speculative, historical, or contemporary authors…pretty much anybody.
Prompt: write a story in which two cultures clash.

Okay, folks, I want to talk about VILLAINS.
(Wow, so surprising.)
I was wondering why some villains have the power to terrify us while others are more like a tired and sarcastic uncle in background. I see lots and lots of complex & sympathetic baddies (Kylo Ren, Loki), and tons of deranged psychos (Thanos, Mother Gothel, the White Witch), but…[Read more]

Hey guys!
Three announcements concerning New Wessex.
1. I know sometimes community building, brainstorming, etc can be difficult on a forum. So I’m going to run an experiment. I’m going to create a group chat. You guys vote. It could be Facebook, it could be Hangouts. We’ll see how it goes. ๐
2. The guilds as a whole have decided to stop doing…[Read more]

I’ll be praying! For you too @corissa ❤️

Praying for your friend and her boyfriend, sounds like a rough situation.
I’m praying for your grandfather and your family and that the doctors can figure that out. My grandfather is currently struggling mentally as well so I understand a little of how rough that can be for family. ๐

I agree with Grace though, we should try to finish brainstorming this thing so we can get it done. So we need to figure out the name and details of our MC, what exactly is the crime, who was either murdered or kidnapped, and what was the motive of who did it? And any details I might have forgotten. ๐

Thanks! I’m very excited to be in this here guild! ๐Yes, I believe that’s what we have so far. Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply!
And as for the Main Character being an investigator, I’m not sure. I would assume he/she is, just because that puts him in the position to be solving the crime, but if we wanna…[Read more]

I like what we have so far! But like many other people said, I’m way out of my league here, so Imma sit back and watch y’all do your thing, and then come back during editing time ๐
To summarize what’s been going on so far: Our MC has amnesia (TGA) and it is this fact that makes the audience initially believe that it was him that…[Read more]

Dealing with multiple ideas
Most writers have more story ideas than they know what to do with. If youโre in this boat, you need to know how to cut through the clutter and make the right decisions. Here are a few things Iโve learned that have helped me.
Write everything down
Writing your story ideas down cements them in your brain. Youโll be ab…[Read more]

@noodle-mum Hey there, Alli! Welcome to New Wessex!
I’m Grace, and as for how I’m doing… life is pretty busy, especially in the summer when I have a lot of volunteering/camps to be involved in. I thought I would have more time to write, but I’m afraid not.

Yeah… a lot of poetry. It’s something I can do during the 15 minute break I get at work on the nights I skip supper, or when I just need an outlet. I took up free verse in the last year, which has really helped. I enjoy rhyming poetry too though, and I’ve been doing that since I was 7 or so. Why do you ask?
Because I LOVE reading, writing, and critiquing poetry. I love learning about poetry and the poets. All things poetry I like.
It’s good to just let go and flow out upon the page. Have you ever tried writing with a ABCB rhyme scheme? It’s one of my favourites.
Not gonna lie, as much as I love poetry I haven’t learned a lot about the technique of it, and I had to look up what an ABCB rhyme scheme is. ;P But yes, that was actually my primary pattern until a couple years ago when I started branching out a little more. (Also, do you happen to live outside the US? Just curious because of how you spelled…[Read more]
Yeah, no I don’t. I’m currently living in California, but I’m also European as well as American.
That’s pretty cool! I’ve read a lot of old European books, and I have a few Australian friends, so I actually kind of prefer the “ou” spelling. ๐
Yeah. For me it adds character to the word. Somehow.
Exactly! I don’t know if you have ever seen and/or read Anne of Green Gables, but it reminds me of that- because Anne with an “e” really is so much nicer than just Ann.
Also, random fact, every time I see the “ou” spelling, it reminds me of the word “facetious,” which is the only word in the English language to include, in alphabetical order, one…[Read more]
I’ve never read it but I’ve seen two different versions of the movie, yes. True, Ann just seems to let you off a cliff.
That’s cool, I’ve never heard of a word like that before!
