@ryowildfire It’s nice to meet you, too. ๐
What kind of fantasy books have you written? Did you publish any of them yet?
Referring to my writing cheat sheet (everyone has one, not just Hiccup), the series follows the main character’s journey in the world of Reimira, where she must be a flame of hope in the darkness. Like any good fantasy series,…[Read more]

@elisha-starquill That’s a good idea! It reminds me of this beautiful song. If everyone else is in agreement, I say we do it. ๐

@evelyn Thanks!!
@steward-of-the-pen I think I have decided on a permanent title for Fire Moon. It’s called The Shackles of the Free because the theme of the story is freedom. I’m still mulling over it, but I think I’ve made my decision. ๐
Quick question, have you put all the rest of the chapters in the doc? I have one more bit of feedback, but…

@ryowildfire Hullo! Welcome to Story Embers! My name’s Ariella, but most folks around here call me Ari. ๐ I’m also a fan of HTTYD. The first movie is my favorite of the three, though the third was the only one to actually get me teary-eyed. ๐
I’ve heard a lot about inner critics lately. My friend @noodle-mum can probably relate a bit more than…[Read more]

@steward-of-the-pen I will be taking a break from editing to finish “Fire Moon” in for Nanowrimo in July. After that, I don’t know if I’ll be able to do much writing or editing.
As for my first book, hopefully next summer I can begin the process of publishing. I don’t know exactly what that will entail, but I’ll worry about it when I get there.…[Read more]

@azeline-d I really like the snippet you wrote about the leaf! The description and word choices are just lovely. And the girl in the snippet reminds me of myself, strangely enough. xD I think the French would be “vous รชtes belle, รฉrable.”
@steward-of-the-pen I love the idea of focusing on a grandmother’s hands and her sacrificial service. I’m j…[Read more]

Okay, so…I finished editing my book. It’s at 73K words. I may need to work on the ending some more to get it just right, but for now it’s done. ๐

The first thing that comes to mind is a landscape. I love forests and mountains, but I come from a very boring, arid place. There are few trees. I still love it, though, especially the sunsets. There aren’t any trees to obstruct the view and the colors are so vibrant. You have to look closely to see the beauty in the desert, like the wildflowers…[Read more]

Update on editing.
My deadline is currently set for Friday (the 21st) and I have just a few chapters until I’m done. My word count is just over 60K, which is a little concerning because I started out at 100K. The most recent chapters have needed a LOT of editing for clarity and conciseness. I think I can make it to the end by the deadline, though…[Read more]

when thereโs a thick fog of tar between you and whatever you need to do, all the sitting in one place in the world canโt push that tar away.
Yep, I know exactly what you mean. It’s a struggle to type out even one sentence. Since I wrote my last post, the “fog” has lifted a little. I think it might have something to do with swi…[Read more]

@coggleton Yes. In 2017 Zahn released a book about Thrawn’s backstory and why he joined the Empire. It’s a very good study in character motivations. Nothing can beat the original trilogy, though this book came very close.

@j-a-penrose I write because it’s something I love. Name anything I do on a daily basis and I’ll most likely say I prefer writing. That’s probably not something to put on a job application, though. ๐ Sometimes I worry where I’ll be in ten years. (I dislike any form of math, and science does not appeal to me.)
I also write to communicate. That…[Read more]

@taylorclogston The original Thrawn trilogy is good!
(and good luck with Camp NaNo! Do you have a plan for what to write yet?)
I won’t be starting a new book, that’s for sure. ๐ Since I have quite a lot written on Fire Moon, I think I’ll use that project. I have a relatively clear idea of what I want the plot to be and I know the characters. That…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Your novella sounds cool!
What I read- Thrawn by Timothy Zahn. This is a great piece of Star Wars fiction. Though I was a little confused by some of the plot twists, it was nice getting a look inside Thrawn’s head.
I also read For Love and Honor by Jody Hedlund and The Healer’s Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson. Unless you’re really…[Read more]

Update:
I am 50K words into the book and have cut several thousand words. I’m also working on the arc of one character in more depth than I did originally.
@steward-of-the-pen @silverclaw-bonnetfolly @cassie-hartfinh There are now ten chapters on the doc. If you can, please read them and let me know what you think. ๐
