Hey Ereki!

I just finished up some edits for my story for the SE contest, so I’m hoping to get some beta readers to look over it!

Below is the link to the google doc plus some specific things I’m looking for critique on. It’s fantasy, about 4k, and contains clean romance and mild blood and gore.

What I’m Looking For:

– Prose. This story is almost finished, so if there are weird or redundant sentences in there, feel free to point them out!

– Pacing. Especially regarding the middle section (interaction between two MCs), does it feel too fast or too bogged down with dialogue?

– Markus (aka MC). What are your thoughts on him? Does he seem unique and likable from the start, or cliched and wooden? He’s undergone several major personality changes, so it may just be me who thinks he’s all over the place 😉

– Character Voice. Similar to the above. If you have any tips on making Markus’s POV voice more unique, I’m all ears. Or if you think it’s unique enough, just let me know!

– The Ending. Was it expected? Or is it too unbelievable? I’m hoping it will make sense but at the same time be surprising and pack an emotional punch.

– Theme. Is the theme of the story too blatant? Or is it confusing? In addition, does it seem the answer to my thematic question is answered in too much of a “worldly” way? If you caught the symbolism in the story, it probably won’t seem that way, but for someone who doesn’t see the symbolism, I’m hoping the theme doesn’t come off as “if someone loves you everything is all cool.” 😛 This is my first time experimenting with symbolism, so I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the theme!
