Hey Everybody, it’s another week!
However, since I posted last week’s topic really late (shame on me and my cow, I know), not all of you got to it. And *spoileralert* our next week activity relies heavily on this week, SO
If you didn’t do last week’s activity, give it a shot this week. If you did, do it again in the same room. I want to push you guys to find the best details you can. Remember, you’re looking for unexpected and unique details, that your reader will automatically associate specific setting. Those sound like contradictions, but there’s a fine line in between, and that’s where you want to operate. For example, if you’re location is a bus stop downtown, instead of ” wooden bench” go for “cigarette stained plexi-glass shelter.” If your location is a bookstore, instead of “rows of bookshelves” try a 20% off bestsellers table. Rows of bookshelves is expected. It’s accurate, but not special. Give your readers a bookstore with a bestseller’s clearance table, and they will put the bookshelves in the background themselves. That’s what you’re going for, creating a vivid image with just one quick detail.
Oh, and this week, no guessing locations. (Most of you will be doing the same, so it won’t really matter, but no guessing the new ones. We need them… unguessed.)
Have a great week!
