@j-a-penrose *gives you coffee* *hopes you like coffee because there’s controversy on that subject* I totally relate; I guess we’ll have to push onward together 😛
Woo-wie! This is a toughie! I’ve never written this sort of thing before. We should make it very emotional. Like, life or death maybe? My immediate thoughts are that we need to give…[Read more]

It’s been forever since I’ve said anything. And agh I am so sorry.
This time, I was aware that I wouldn’t be about. However, in the hectic mess of life, I had assumed I had asked someone to step in until things at this end were sorted out. So, either I totally forgot to do that, or no one actually took it on and it got forever lost in the…[Read more]

@writercatherine Oh, sorry. I had to put my bird to bed in the meantime. xD
@cassie-hartfinh Aw, thanks for the encouragement! I doubt I could have ever come up with it, though, if @anne_the_noob14 hadn’t inspired me with the first idea of a sarcastic horse (thank you, Anne!) I couldn’t pull this off without you guys, so thanks to all! (Including…[Read more]

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this problem yet, but I just discovered that when I tried to access the entire current guild war topic, I got the message “Page Not Found”. None of the stuff we discussed in the topic is there anymore. The only way to even access the discussion or the link to the guild war doc is from the notifications…[Read more]

Something else that could be used to find the “good” traits for a villain is to ask why they do something. For example, consider the following reasons the bad guy could shoot someone who’s running away:
– Personal entertainment? This means mercilessness is rooted in cruelty.
– To prevent the man from suffering further? This…[Read more] -
J.A.Penrose started the topic Characters | Lesson 4 : The Other Side in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 4 months ago
A lot of the time, characters are written so that they are 100% good or bad. The protagonist is perfect, good looking, and maybe he has mild claustrophobia as a weakness. The villain is evil, kills puppies and shoots up old ladies in his spare time, and maybe every now and then he tortures someone who spilt his coffee instead of killing them.

@writercatherine Aww it would have been hilarious if you’d whole-guild tagged to let us know =P I’ll keep away from it.
@j-a-penrose This is maybe something to think about if it hasn’t been already? Was in-guild whole-list tagging intended to supersede the basic tagging restriction?

J.A.Penrose started the topic Characters | Lesson 3 : The Motive in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
The motive of your character is important. The motive is what drives your character forward, and makes every scene feel strong and meaningful. The character’s motive is what brings about the theme, and what pushes the plot along. Your plot is driven by your character’s motive. Therefore, the character motive could be the most important f…[Read more]

Pretty much, the first thing I wanted to talk about is going back to the very basics of what a…[Read more]
