No, not too critical. Thank you for your considerate reply! I think your story themes sounds great! It reminds me a lot of Pilgrim’s Progress. The parallels are very easy to see, and it sounds like a really interesting story.

Hey Jared!
Its an interesting idea, and the skeleton of the story is great. I think something you would need to ponder, however, is the biblical themes you portray. Now I know no novel, written by a Christian or not, is imperfect, but it would do Christian authors well to portray biblical truth as best they can.
Now maybe you…[Read more]

In fantasy, there is a line where the fantastical becomes far-fetched. Where do you draw the line?
Upon another line of thought, similar to that, I was wondering when it comes to catering biblical realities and Christian truth into fantasy, how far is too far when it comes to altering truth to fit into your story?
Here’s an example of what I…[Read more]

Jared Williams replied to the topic What is the most bizarre creature you have created for your WIP? in the forum Fantasy Writers 4 years, 5 months ago
Hehe. Nice question.
My high fantasy has a lot of normal creatures you’d find here on earth, but also plenty of new fantasy creatures. The legendary ones are called the creatures of Myf, and they are pretty spectacular. I’ve only created a few of them so far, however.
Saliero (name derived from the latin word for frog – Salientia) – also known…[Read more]

That’s an awesome creature you have there. I haven’t gotten around to my aquatic creatures yet but I will definitely have some small to leviathan size predators. I would say most of my creatures are pretty normal-ish for fantasy.
I have a lot of underground wildlife. I would say the most bizarre of them is the…[Read more]

Thank you, Joshua! Do your dragons breathe fire? Seems like your dragons could pretty much clear out a cave of “bludryx”, if so. What would make a dragon fear a “bludryx”? Is there another quality they possess that could bring down a dragon? If a dragon belches smoke, does the smoke overpower their sense of smell? If subtle noises agitate…[Read more]

Yeah, certain dragons do. There are eyeless dragons much like them who live in caves as part of their ecosystem and can use sharp piercing sounds as a weapon to ward off the bludryx when they get bold with their numbers. Bludryx just use their endurance, jaws, and numbers to overwhelm large prey. Smoke and heat is the best way to keep them at bay.…[Read more]

Hey guys and gals,
I just wanted to ask you creatives what is the most bizarre creature you have ever made up for your works in fiction and what did you call it?
I have a very strange set of pale white aquatic creatures with a living nest of their eel-like young that sprout from their heads and have sharp beak-like jaws that serve to catch prey…[Read more]

“I hear snakes don’t like cats. Does somebody have a cat we could toss down there and…” [looks around at all of the glares and frowns] “What? Okay…okay! Just brainstorming here. I’ll see myself out.” 😉

Hi Jared,
I totally agree. I am a writer-in-progress with much need of help from fellow authors and readers.
This is my second pass through the “editing” of my WIP, and I’ve taken to doing dramatic recordings of it with atmospheric background and music. I think it helps me visualize not just what is going on in the foreground,…[Read more] -

No worries, the Castle has a great personality xD I don’t think it needs to do anything to Erik to be entertained by him, so I will leave him to his own devices until an opportunity for interaction arises xD

I’m new to the forum, so I hope I’m doing this correct, but I love this idea of posting audio clips. I hope to put one up soon… though I may not have much time to go back and listen to all the wonderful recordings prior to this…
I was enthralled by your writing – however, the background sounds were a bit too much…[Read more]

Well, not a whole lot XD
@inkhorn , @merieshenanigans , and me dropped in our characters. They’ve all been hanging around, kinda talking to each other a bit. Merie’s character is off in another room but all the others are together in a library.
The castle just turned off the lights and sent snakes at them. We’re still just…[Read more]
