@wordsmith Okay, let’s see… I’m guessing#1 is tense/foreboding, #2 is happy, and that means #3 is sad. Am I right? Also, is the object you picked…your hands?

Well, here are my three sentences, though I think the tense/foreboding one might’ve come out more comical than threatening.
(Happy) As morning sunlight gazes into the room, the gauzy curtains dance in the breeze flowing through the open window.
(Sad) Embroidered rows of cozy little homes line the edges of the curtains; if only these windows r…[Read more]

@graceabounds2129 I don’t think I’ve met you yet, so hi! I’ve been a bad girl and haven’t been on here much for the past couple weeks, so I figured I’d drop by for a critique. First off, I have to say that I love Amelie’s voice! It’s a bit stilted and falls more into the “telling” category before the break, but after the break you really seem to…[Read more]

1) hand over mouth
2) giggling nervously
3) refusing to make eye contact
4) head down and shoulders slumped
5) fidgeting
I chose embarrassment. (An emotion I am well acquainted with.)

I didn’t have time to do this last week, but I do this week!
1) steam swirling up from a white pot on a stove
2) glasses and water bottles clustered together on a counter top
3) a gleaming silver faucet, arched over a deep sink
4) an open dishwasher with rows of dishes stacked inside
5) a refrigerator studded with childish drawings, rece…[Read more]

@mariposa I’ve only been using it for a month or two, but my experience with wordpress.com has been pretty good. The features and options for customization are numerous, even on the free plan (what I have). It’s really easy and intuitive to use. I can’t really compare it to wordpress.org, since I’ve never used it before, but I don’t see myself…[Read more]

Quinn O'Fallon replied to the topic Ghosts (poem) in the forum Rillumen's Writing Discussions 7 years, 11 months ago
@sir-leeds I think “Grandma’s Ghost” could be cool, or maybe something like “Footsteps in Grandma’s House.” (Idk if that sounds cool or not, I just came up with it.) Your idea of asking the question more subtly (and definitely more creepily) sounds great–it would probably match the tone of the rest of the poem much better. And the length of the…[Read more]

@sir-leeds I don’t usually like poems that don’t rhyme, but I definitely enjoyed this one! I would try to make the title a little more descriptive of the actual poem so that it’s more interesting. I love love love the story–especially that little twist at the end! I had to think about it for a moment, and I really like when a piece of writing…[Read more]

@happyholly_c Linking Christmas, the three french hens, and faith, hope, and love together is so creative! Definitely a neat idea. But the dialogue is pretty stilted, which is totally understandable–when you have a point you want to get across, it’s hard to do it in realistic dialogue, because most of the time people don’t say everything they’re…[Read more]

I’m kinda late to the party, but I finally arrived!
So I had this idea. (Yes, you should be very afraid now.) Bouncing off of what @rolena-hatfield and @scribbles said about drawing out the emotions of anxiety, the time to rise up, and war, we could use the point of view of a veteran soldier/officer (I’m thinking in a classic medieval setting)…[Read more]

Quinn O'Fallon replied to the topic My character is blind. Is my story doomed? in the forum Characters 7 years, 11 months ago
@morreafirebird You should totally resurrect that story–it’s a really cool idea, especially with a first-person narrator. There’s so much potential in that unique of a narrator and point of view. Of course, that’s just my opinion, but I’d love to read it if you finish it!
