Hey!
Oh cool…what’s your YA book about? (If you mind me asking 🙂 )
So, do you mean you’ve already started writing them? If so, how long are they so far?
Well, my advice would be to:
1. Choose a genre that you want to write in mainly (I’ve chosen to write historical-fiction at the moment for my novella series I’m hoping to…[Read more]

Oh wow, the exact same thing happened to my current WIP! I originally planned it to be a short story of 6,000 words (and I hoped to sell it to a children’s magazine) but after about, oh, 40,000 words, it became apparent that it was going to be a novel XD And no problem, your explanation wasn’t long-winded.

Hey Rebekah!
Great questions. My personal opinion for some time has been that I think a number of writers feel a need to publish a lot sooner than they need to–or than it’s necessarily wise to do so. Truth be told, there’s no rush to get published and if the additional time allows you to better hone your craft and put together a smashing first…[Read more]

@imwritehere1920 @abigail-rebekah
Hey ya’ll.
I’m currently working on a YA novel…but I have two MG or Kid’s books that I’d like to finish. Do you guys have any advice you’d like to share for someone who’s just starting?
My idea is to do something like Chronicles of Narnia, only with more pictures. Something that’s easy to read and exciting…[Read more]

Aw thanks 🙂
I use YWW (Young Writer’s Workshop). Are you part of it?
Ooh cool!
Yes, definitely…they did a really good job.
Aw thank you! The genre for my novella is historical-fiction (with a little clean romance in there too 😉 ).
This is the synopsis or premise:
World War II is sweeping across Europe, stealing the…[Read more]

@josiah @taylorclogston and @daeus-lamb
I’m so sorry for the late reply. I wrote a response that didn’t post, then have had an incredibly busy few weeks, and didn’t think to check to make sure it posted. ): But I do very much so appreciate that you have taken the time to help me out and give me advice.
To keep you updated, since I last posted,…[Read more]

It’s so nice to ‘meet’ you too! Thanks so much! I like your name too! 🙂
Which writing website do you use?
I can’t tell much, but my WIP is about a brother and sister who find a lost phoenix and have to return it home (it’s much more complex than that; this is just the gist).
And yes, I saw the Giver movie; the visuals and h…[Read more]

Hey Lily,
Nice to “meet” you 😉
I love your name btw; it’s very pretty!
That’s all good…I’ve been mainly using another writing website recently so haven’t really done much on here.
Ooh cool genre! What is your WIP about, if you don’t mind me asking?
I loved the film for The Giver. Have you seen it? That genre is really…[Read more]

Hi there! *waves back*. I’m Lily. I know this is coming really late (I signed up for the forum, oh, about a month ago? Idk, quarantine has messed up my ability to keep track of time XD). Anyway, I haven’t really visited this forum much, because it didn’t look like a lot of people used it recently; but then I figured since I’m…[Read more]

Okay, that was super helpful. Thanks for the thoughts! I’ll check all that out…and if anyone else has thoughts, pitch in as well. 🙂

Okay, also I have had several younger writers beta reading my book. Whether that’s good or not, there it is. XD I find it helpful on a small scale, personally, even if I don’t always like their ideas.
I also realize that my own opinion (that my book is awesome and I’m pretty good at editing it) may be highly biased, so be brutal if necessary. I…[Read more]

That is the question. Okay, that and a couple of other questions, maybe. XD
So I’ve been planning to self-publish the book that I’ve been writing like crazy within the next couple of months, but I’m starting to have second thoughts just a little bit and wondered a few things. Those of you who have published (esp if you’ve done well :P), I’d…[Read more]

@rebekah-elizabeth I agree with a lot of @taylorclogston‘s feedback. Not sure if you’re looking at traditional publishing or re-trying self-publishing right now, but if the latter, I’d definitely invest in a professional cover (as it sounds like you’re already considering) and also work on building your personal platform so you’re able to reach a…[Read more]

@rebekah-elizabeth Taylor’s already given good advice, but I just want to say I’ve been in the same boat and it’s all for the best in the long run. The most important thing to focus on is your product. Building a platform, paying for ads, and all that are secondary and really just drain your energy until you’ve got the foundation laid. The good…[Read more]

@rebekah-elizabeth Thank you for taking it well =P You do seem serious about writing, for whatever it’s worth.
I just want you to know I did the exact same over impulsive publishing thing. I published mine after a bunch of years of casual writing, without learning anything about doing it properly, let alone marketing. I put out a too-short book…[Read more]

Before I get into some of the explaining parts, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to help me out. You are literally the first person who has given me constructive criticism on my writing, adressing problems and such, and I was getting tired of people giving me the fluffy-bunny thoughts of my book. And you don’t come across…[Read more]

@rebekah-elizabeth No worries regarding sounding like you’re in it for money. If you create a product, it’s not wrong to want money for it. It just means you value your time and effort.
Okay, there’s a lot to unpack here XD

I am not opposed to the idea of spending money on advertising, the problem arises that I have a job that, because for COVID, is hardly paying the car/phone bills each month, so I don’t have a lot of extra money on hand.
