Your dedication and your desire to dive right in remind me of myself at your age. I didn’t successfully publish until I was 15 (which was still too early), but I knew what I wanted to do and I did it. And I get the impression you could readily do the same thing.
But since I have been there, I have some words of caution. Well, the first is…[Read more]

I am about a year away from publishing and I’m only 14 right now. I want to self -publish mainly because I want to own all rights to my book, but I’m unsure if I can do it. I don’t want to publish as an e-book only if I even do an e-book. I want it done right. I have very little money, I know my dad would probably fund me if I asked him to, but I…[Read more]

Hi Lydia!
Yes, I’m working on a middle-grade mystery/action novel. I finished the rough draft and am now working on revising. I love getting new ideas, it’s so exciting to me!
I’ve never been great with themes either, but I’ve done research by reading fables and fairy tales, as well as other books, and deciphering their themes. I think you have…[Read more]

Hi! I’m Lydia, I’m currently seventeen. Do you have a current project? At the moment, I’m torn between a couple things; a sci-fi and a fantasy, both somewhere in the YA/children’s area. What’s your favorite part about writing? For me, I really love my characters. It’s so much fun playing around with them, watching how they interact, and…[Read more]

I’m going to be publishing on KDP Amazon self-publishing. I’ve never been published but I’ve gotten some good advice on how to use it. I’ve been told that you can set it up and have it ready in a week or less with kindle and under a month with paperback. I have written for magazines but was turned down sadly (clubhouse magazine).…[Read more]

@sarafini Congratulations on finishing that first book! You mentioned you hope book one is published by the end of summer, so does that mean you’ve already landed a publishing deal and are just waiting on the release date? What has your writing and publishing journey looked like up till this point?

Nice to meet you Abby. Btw, great name! I have 3 friends with that name so it must be popular.
Thanks for the advice. Good to know. I think I’ll wait until book 2 is mostly written just because it’ll help me plan out better the series.

Great question!
First off – if the series is episodic (like Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys), go ahead and publish the first book! Since episodic series are tied together by the same characters or settings, they don’t need to be planned out to the last volume, especially since they are indefinite. They go on until the author is done! The same with…[Read more]

Also I meant the 1st book for the 1st time. Sorry if it’s confusing. It’s easier to ask this here instead of KP ’cause most of you are more advanced and older.
