    Good evening, Ereki!

As a quick note to our new guild members: you’re welcome to go back to the other annual theme discussions and do the assignments. Just tag me and I’ll check out your results 🙂

Inspiration for this week’s annual theme discussion came from 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, where Paul tells of when he begged God to take away his weakness. That got me thinking about how character flaws can create conflict in our stories. It can create a lot of inner turmoil, guilt, and frustration if a character is aware of their flaw but unable to overcome it in order to accomplish one of their goals. As Paul puts it: ” For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” (Romans 7:15).

Or if the character is totally oblivious to their flaw and unable to understand why things aren’t going well, there’s lots of conflict as well 😛

So this week’s assignment is to find your character’s main flaw and figure out how it relates to his central internal conflict (Week 5’s assignment). If you want to take it a step further, recall the article I posted last week, and look at how your character’s flaw makes him more inclined to want Need #1 over Need #2, or vice versa. Then post your results here!

    MY RESULTS:
    – My protagonist Seth’s flaw is being oversensitive. He takes everything much too personally and misinterprets slight offenses, and this makes him more inclined to believe that Faatir will never give him a gift because he perhaps did something wrong in the past, rather than hope that Faatir will eventually reward him because Seth has done nothing obvious that is wrong. So Seth’s flaw makes him unable to fully chase his positive Need #2, and the results are rather messy 😛
