I think it’s important to remember that there’s a difference between a happy ending and a perfect ending. In my opinion it’s the perfect endings that are cliché, while the happy endings can actually be really satisfying. @bama-rose I did play in a symphony/strings orchestra for much of my elementary and middle school years, but in high school I did one and a half years, and probably won’t go back to it in the near future.

I haven’t revised a long draft yet, so I’m not sure what to say, as going through a novella on a sentence-by-sentence basis like I do for short stories probably isn’t sustainable. I generally look for plot holes, realistic actions/dialogue, and making the setting more vivid.

@noahlitle I don’t really mind the music theory, but I’m bothered more by the repeated references to the song while he’s talking to Emma (I wrote this out in full in the document). But the chords don’t bother me, they make sense. 🙂

Looking back, I like most of those elements I called into question, but I was just worrying if they interfered with Emma (like, if they made the story too complicated). I think the hat fits well, though, and “live” makes some sense in its context.
