Grace replied to the topic A happy ending 🙂 in the forum Announcements 7 years, 2 months ago
I think it’s important to remember that there’s a difference between a happy ending and a perfect ending. In my opinion it’s the perfect endings that are cliché, while the happy endings can actually be really satisfying. While a story might end with the characters hurting and darkness and evil still existing, the story can still end happy.

I take a deep breath and reply. “I’m doing better. Even though there’s still a lot of work, I think I’ve learned to live with myself rather than basing my identity on my accomplishments. For the first time in my life, too, I’ve come back to God every day telling Him that even though there are some things that don’t feel okay, I can entrust those…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb Sounds cool! I’m like @bama-rose in that I probably won’t get to watch the movie right away, but I’ll definitely be looking out for it in the coming months. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

I slide into the room but don’t say anything, just releasing a sigh and hoping for some rest before the week’s struggles overtake me again.
God is so good to give us community. Just knowing that there’s a group of us who can trust Him together makes the going easier, somehow.

Ahhh…. I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to be so active recently, and probably for the rest of the semester. I’ll definitely try to show up for word wars/guild wars, though!
What I read (highlights):
Six of Crows
The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
The Montmaray Journals (series)
All the Light We Cannot See
The Little Pri…[Read more]

@bama-rose I did play in a symphony/strings orchestra for much of my elementary and middle school years, but in high school I did one and a half years, and probably won’t go back to it in the near future.

@noahlitle I actually haven’t featured music predominantly in one of my stories. I should do it sometime! Also, I mostly do classical music on the violin, but recently I’ve been learning some worship songs.
@r-m-archer I actually own two ocarinas! (I forgot they existed for like, a year now.) I know some fingerings on them, but it’s pretty cool…[Read more]

@chalice No problem! I would suggest you could simply put a post up on SE (or some other writer’s community you may be part of) and find someone you trust to do it, or else ask a writer you know in person.

@selah-chelyah Thank you for attaching the information! I am actually no longer in the West Coast (my life is a little bit complicated) but I appreciate you tagging me, nevertheless!
@taylorclogston I agree that he should start a website or otherwise be in the public eye. Even though what he does isn’t supported by many scientists, surely his…[Read more]

@chalice Congratulations 😀
I haven’t revised a long draft yet, so I’m not sure what to say, as going through a novella on a sentence-by-sentence basis like I do for short stories probably isn’t sustainable. I generally look for plot holes, realistic actions/dialogue, and making the setting more vivid.
An alpha reader would probably be a good…[Read more]

@selah-chelyah Do you have an URL that we could click into? I am on the West Coast, but the nature of this discussion doesn’t feel quite right.
I’m sure that if it’s relevant and/or dangerous, you can just share it directly with us and not have to worry about causing a lot of discussion. 🙂

@noahlitle Wow, that’s pretty impressive 🙂 (I also may never use the word “musical” to describe myself again…)
Just kidding 😛 I play the violin and occasionally plunk out random chords on the piano so I can sing to it, but it’s not much compared to you, haha.
Does music appear a lot in your stories?

@bama-rose This is a long while to reply… but I’m afraid it’s unlikely that I’ll get to this anytime soon. If I could guarantee I had time, I would love to take a look at your story!
@eden-anderson YOUR PROFILE PIC *grins* I love it.

@elizabeth I’m a little bit in the same boat regarding my WIP, but I’m just going ahead and writing it, because I know that I can’t grasp everything at once, and certainly not in my first draft. When I come back the second time and finally can see everything from a much broader place, that’s when I’ll work in the foreshadowing, fix plot holes, and…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb I actually did read this, and even though I didn’t reply at that time, I decided that in my world, the country my story occurs in is actually going to be one of several ones that are at war with each other (previously it was going to be a single, isolated one). I haven’t really delved deeper into it, but I think it helps broaden the…[Read more]

@noahlitle I don’t really mind the music theory, but I’m bothered more by the repeated references to the song while he’s talking to Emma (I wrote this out in full in the document). But the chords don’t bother me, they make sense. 🙂

@noahlitle This is a little late, and I’ve already started suggesting, but… yeah.
Looking back, I like most of those elements I called into question, but I was just worrying if they interfered with Emma (like, if they made the story too complicated). I think the hat fits well, though, and “live” makes some sense in its context.
What if Emma…[Read more]
