Well, my worst story was about a girl who tried to turn the whole world into tomatoes by squirting them with tomato juice…
I don’t really know how to fix that. 😛

I’ve hit a bit of a snag with my character names… (Apologies in advance, this is going to be very long)
I’ve just finished the first draft of the story I’m writing, and almost every name needs changing (they were all placeholder names). The problem is I’ve grown really attached to many of them. Maybe you all can help me figure out what to…[Read more]

Hello… again.
It’s been way too long since I’ve been active, but I really do appreciate this form.
To (re)introduce myself, I have dabbled in writing and poetry for a long time. I’ve written poetry on this site before, and have written mostly fantasy, and mostly for my own enjoyment. I now have a story I’m invested enough in that I feel like I…[Read more]

Hello!
It’s been a long time since I posted here, hope you all don’t mind.
I am almost finished with a rough (and I mean rough) draft of a new fantasy story I’m writing. I’ve really loved it and I’m hoping to polish it up and maybe get it published if its as good as I think it is now.
Which leads me to my question: should I get some beta…[Read more]

(Oopsy daisy! I completely forgot as well).
Slate crossed his arms, looking at Ruhanna (@jennythefaun). “Important business, huh? What kind?”

@emberynus-the-dragonslayer, @kari-karast
Slate rubbed the back of his neck. “Oh yeah. That’s then name. Thanks. Say, what are you all reading? My friend told me I should start reading more. I’ve never been a big bookworm, if you know what I mean.”

Name: Slate
Age: 26
Personality, friendly and outgoing, but also pretty cautious and world-weary.
Slate: Wanders through the bookstore scanning the titles before he sees the group in the back reading. Walks up to them. “Um, hey, would any of you know where I could find a mystery book about some Christie lady? Or maybe by Christie. I don’t…[Read more]

This looks like it’ll be a fantastic discussion. I wish I wrote reviews so I could chime in, but in the mean time I’ll just lurk…

So far, I’m seeing 1 for me by @McKinley (I’ll bet by tiny margins) any others?

I should rephrase that. I know you wanted to make some edits, and didn’t know if you had done what you wanted to do, or felt you needed to get it done (since yours is pretty good as is).
If no one is able to make up their mind on which story, pick jennythefaun’s. I’ve already had my turn. 🙂

You could even say it was…
A statement that promptly led
To a gold rush excursion
Of eager young wordsmiths mining
For a satisfying conclusion.
So tell me, are you pleased,
To see so much about cheese?

I love it! It’s so cute! In fact, it has inspired me to new levels of artistry…
Holy cheese
It might sound cheesy
To call cheese holy
But it has holes, complainers! Please,
I think it’s easy
To mean it fully
When you say you eat holy cheese.

That was amazing!!! Well done. You have beautiful prose and foreshadowing. And you used my disappearing woman! 🙂
The only thing I would do is give Noss a little more initiative. For the most part, I felt like he was merely watching and commenting on the events, instead of actively trying to find the truth out.
The easiest fix is…[Read more]

Hmm, now you’re the second person to say the same thing. Guess that means I need to go re-write that. 🙂
Oh dearie me, that’s a lot to fix. Great suggestion, though! I’ll see if I can alter the story to make that happen. Let’s just hope I can do all that in the word limit. I was already pushing it. I also just took…[Read more]
