Whoops! Well, they’re aliens. Flesh and blood, with different colored skin. Their blood changes color based on their emotions and it shows through their veins, which are under translucent skin. Orange is for anxiety and red is for fear, etc. I was trying to set that up without info-dumping with the novitiate in the beginning, but it may not have…[Read more]

Also not quite sure about the ending. Could use some second opinions there.

OKAY GUYS.
It’s rough, but it’s down. Took a few turns I wasn’t planning for, but I think it’s pretty close. What do y’all think?

@corissa @cassandraia @literatureforthelight @eden-anderson way to go, ladies!
Corissa, I love all your ideas, and I think they would be perfect— for a much larger story. 😛 I forget our exact word limit, but the enormity of all your beautiful themes would crowd out a lot of the simple rawness that can be such a strength in a short story.
You…[Read more]

@cassandraia hmmmm… maybe we could do a scifi/fantasy mashup… the larger setting wouldn’t be terribly significant, but it could be set on an alien planet with all kinds of strange wildlife and marine life, but also with advanced tech. And there could still be organized religion and a priesthood or some such. I’ve kinda always wanted to try…[Read more]

@cassandraia I think humans can be like that. Determined to despair, but also unable to give up on that last little bit of hope. It’s a God thing. I definitely think it could work.

@eden-anderson no, that’s totally what I was going for. Glad you like it!
Anyone interested in kicking this off, or shall I?

So guys, I feel like we need an emotional dilemma. Who was it that suggested depression/suicidal thoughts? I think that could actually match really well. Maybe the character dived into the kelp forest hoping to find death there.
We could make it a larger story, with lots of backstory inferred. If this is a fantasy story (and I feel like we could…[Read more]

Good to see you again too, @Eden-anderson. 😀
What tags did I miss? @Daeus-lamb @cassandraia… and who else? Thoughts on this one, guys?

*jumps in*
Okay guys I actually really like the fish/kelp idea. It’s very offbeat and we’d have to handle it carefully, but it’s got such a good aura/imagery to it— almost like a parable of life and following the light. What do you think?

This was more timely than I like to admit. 😛 Thank you for your words of encouragement, Anne. I’ve always been easy to discourage, so I set up a bunch of safeguards for myself ahead of time— a praise file being one of them. I was able to stave off discouragement for a long time, but it hit me hard about a year ago and I’ve been struggling with…[Read more]

@literatureforthelight Grace I love it! It has a great aura about it and the 2nd person is seamless. Props to you because 2nd person is something I cannot write to save my life. 😛
I added in a few suggestions, mostly word-choice, show-don’t-tell stuff, and I did have a little bit of a hard time figuring out what was going on at the beginning (I…[Read more]
