So guys, I feel like we need an emotional dilemma. Who was it that suggested depression/suicidal thoughts? I think that could actually match really well. Maybe the character dived into the kelp forest hoping to find death there.

We could make it a larger story, with lots of backstory inferred. If this is a fantasy story (and I feel like we could do some really cool magical things with the imagery if it is) maybe this person was a priest or priestess. Either of the one true God or a false god. Somehow she/he feels cheated in their life, tired of living or maybe weighed down by guilt or unforgiven sins, and trying to find a place where God’s light and beauty can’t touch them.
