Ink on paper. Birdsong. The rush of traffic and the tendril of dew-dripped silence.
Poetry.
You look around at the worlds of stories with a sigh caught on the tongue. You wish you could convince them. Ask them all: Can you not hear Earth’s heartbeat? Louder than yours—longer. Thrumming, drumming, throbbing. Thrashing with life inside of you…[Read more]

“A new biome has recently been founded. Ruins of an ancient civilisation were dug up to expose an entire new world; A portal through time. Members of Parimi Alca flock to it to uncover the mysteries of the past and to tell their stories. Scribes, archeologists, and dreamers scavenge the ruins, some finding places perfectly preserved, while o…

You straighten up as you step out of the air-ship, glancing about at the bustling city in confusion. Gears and intermingle with corsets and grease as you step forward, your heart lodged somewhere in your throat—but not from dread so much as anticipation.
A man tips his hat at you as he approaches, lifting a pair of goggles away from his eyes. “…[Read more]

A spaceship crashed in your section of land not that long ago, but ever since then, things have been run differently. A white-suited man smiled his way to the top of politics, manipulating the long-lived systems of equality and turning it into a power grab for himself.
You’ve lived through all of this. A rebel of the biome, you intend to find a w…[Read more]

Cars line up along the road as you wait in the traffic, glancing at your watch. Running late. As if you could afford to get to work late as well as deal with your chaotic kids, and be expected to solve the mystery of your dog’s death.
Finally, the traffic begins moving and you release the brake, slowly rolling forwards with the flow. Definitely g…[Read more]

The aircraft shudders violently beneath you as you run your fingers over the keys, trying to block out the flashing of the emergency light to your left and the yells coming from the passengers in the cabin.
“Come one, come on, come on..” The growl slips between your lips and you tug down a lever, finally managing to cut the engine.
The gro…[Read more]

You steal around the back of the castle, glancing around briefly before tapping on the dilapidated wooden door in front of you. Soundlessly, it swings open. Casting your gaze about one more time over the laughing townsfolk and the loitering children, you duck into the darkness.
As you fumble the door closed behind you, a lantern is lit in the…[Read more]

@steward-of-the-pen Ooooh yay! I’m looking forward to being able to read Dahop’s Ember! (and good luck!)
It is indeed…Hence I’m totally rewriting it over the next two weeks. </3
I wrote the first 12 chapters of the first book in my Epic Fantasy Series, Bloodstone. 😀 Only reached 26K, but hey, that’s something with all of the chaos of life.

@taylorclogston Hmmm, I tend to find that those extra layers of plotting give me a few more ideas. It also tends to flesh the character arc out to be more gradual that way…
The other thing is that it’s perfectly fine to write novellas! Look at Hope Ann. Her main style is in novella.
(If it’s a comfort to you, my Major Work that I really need…[Read more]

@steward-of-the-pen Ahhh yep.
Typically, second person is treated like first person; You’re allowed to have a flow of thoughts, and direct contact with the world around. Show don’t tell typically involves the same rules as first person as well. Second person also is addressing the reader, so tends to be in present tense.
That at all helpful?…[Read more]

@julia Eyyy sweet. We shall hold you accountable.
I’m doing a short story for my major work this year, and I’m only allowed to have 6K?? It’s so short. o-o Still not sure how I’m doing it, but I’m just going to start writing and see what happens.

Second person is ‘you.’
They whisper your name in the realms of myths and ledgend. ‘Child of the moon, spirit of the moon.’ And yet, none of them know who you truly are. Every time you take a step, your enemy rears up against you with swords drawn and savage words slicing.
And yet, you feel the greeting of an Autumn breeze…

@taylorclogston Ooooh, good job!
Hmm, not sure. I don’t generally have any issues with getting things long enough… Have you tried plotting out all of the chapters, and adding a few more that focus on character development scenes? These will be clunky when they first go in, but then you can get them to flow. Also, when you edit, often your style…[Read more]

At the request of @ariella-newheart, Parimi Alca now has a Writers’ Corner! *cheers*Basically, this is just where you say that you are writing, and others who are around can all write with you and hold you accountable on a smaller scale.
I mean, how often do we sit down to write and find ourselves scrolling through Pinterest boards of different…[Read more]

@julia Fun story: I get seriously weirded out when reading second person, so when one of my friends wanted me to edit his assignment, I actually couldn’t do it because reading it in that way is so weird. But he managed to beat me in that assessment. </3 And when he heard that that’s what the guild war prompt was he said, ‘there’s no way your guild…[Read more]

@evelyn Ooooh yep. That’d be cool.
@calebonline I’m not 100% sure what you mean. Because from memory, that’s what 2nd person entails?
@christlover Hmm, yes. Letters are a fairly obvious one. The problem would be that they generally have both 1st and 2nd person within them…
