      @gbfruitbat

      1) Name: Ciranna

      Ambra

      2) Age: like 30s or 40s.  It’s kinda hard to tell since she’s sort of alien- or faerie-like

Her people are of the deceptive aging sort lol. She’s in her 130’s

      3) Career/Role in Story: I’d say not the MC…maybe like a motherly character or a mentor??

Spot on! She is the mentor character of one of the MCs… though she’s also a secondary protagonist too. A lot of her problems do revolve around her being a mother too.

      4) Personality: quiet and wise, but with a fiery side

YES. She’s very calm and stoic, and definitely comes off as being the person in the room who always knows what to do… but she doesn’t, and can only hope that what she does know is enough. She is not the sort to start a fight, though there definitely is a fiery temper burning deep within her yet.

      5) Would you be friends with that character?: probably yes

Yes. Without a second thought. She needs a hug.

      6) Any other details you may have gotten from the picture: not really…

Details I put in: Those inky black markings are burn scars, from her days as a soldier in her youth. I tried to give her decorative armor a feathered look, to hint toward her being a phoenix.

      7) What would this character’s nickname be?: N/A

She has had many titles throughout her life, her most prominent former titles of General and Queen. As for nicknames, there is one friend she has that can get away with them.

      8) Character’s greatest strength: she’s a natural diplomat and knows when to concede and when to stand her ground

Definitely. She keeps a good head under pressure and does her best to protect and guide those in her care. She also knows when to admit she was wrong and apologize. When she speaks, everyone shuts up and listens, and those that follow her would follow her to the end.

      9) Character’s fatal flaw: she often tries to take on things on her own

I think that works. She would definitely try to fix everything her self and not put others in danger if she could. But as of right now in story, she physically can’t, and she’s also surrounded with equally stubborn individuals who refuse to let her deal with it on her own.

      10) Phrase that this character is likely to say: “let me do the talking, okay?”

She has a naturally authoritative but graceful voice… the closest example would be Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel I think, but maybe a little lower. She picks her words carefully and keeps her tone level… though once in a while she might use some rougher speech, leftover from her youthful days at war.

      11) Character’s favorite color(s): gold and white?

Gold and golden orange or amber, with accents of black or white.

      12) Character’s family status (parents alive? any siblings or other close family members?): ummm…I feel like she’d have a younger brother that she had to take care of and who’s always getting into trouble

She doesn’t have any siblings, though she has a close friend who’s practically a brother to her, who’s very loud, boisterous, and would be far more prone to get himself into trouble… man would fistfight a dragon if he was given the chance…

As for her parents… if they are still alive, she probably hasn’t spoken to them in a loooong time.

      13) Single or taken?: single, maybe?

Single. She was ‘married’ (it was an arranged thing, and the only purpose of the union was to produce an heir) to the King. Her culture doesn’t really view or practice marriage like we do. Their culture is very practical and self-serving, and love is seen as something that gets in the way of things.

      14) Characters children (if any?): none

One biological son that she was very close to, and one son she emotionally adopted that is currently a villain. She also has a chronic case of “Compulsive Adoption Disorder” where any person younger than her in desperate of love or care will suddenly acquire a new mother figure.

      15) Characters hobbies: likes to sketch

I don’t think she’s discovered a specific activity that’d she’d do only out of enjoyment alone, but some characters might introduce her to one or two. She does enjoy sparring with her friend, which, after years of the practice, comes with ease and they often fall into a casual conversation while doing so.

      16) Greatest fear: the people she’s cares about dying

More specifically that her failing to protect them results in that. Failing the trust and needs of those in her care has already happened before, and she can’t let that happen again.

      17) Dreams and Aspirations: just wants her life to go back to normal

Right now she has an immediate goal of stopping the villain and fixing her mistake, but personal dreams aren’t something she’s really considered, though they are definitely there. She wants a family. One that feels whole, that isn’t just made out of blood and contracts, but honest love and care.

      18) Darkest Secret: idk really…

Her secrets tie in with those of other people, especially her sons, and she believes she failed them.

      19) Peculiarities: doesn’t eat when she’s stressed out

Maybe. She’s also seven feet tall. A lot of her peculiarities result from her culture, which has a very cynical view on relationships among emotions and attachments in general. She’s an oddity in her own world for her attachments and more sentimental approach to things, which likely started with her and her friend needing to rely on the other on the battlefield.

      20) The meaning of their name (Either real meaning or your own story meaning): means “cloudy/stormy”

I just took the word ‘amber’ and tweaked it.

Thank you for guessing for her! You actually got pretty close. I’ll wait a bit and give someone else chance to guess for yours, otherwise I’ll guess sometime later today.

And while I’m on here, I’ll put out a challenge of my own:

Curious to see what you think of her…

        @ajstoryteller

          @emma-walker I’ll give her a shot. Sorry I haven’t been on much.

          1) Name: Annalee Sylbard

          2) Age: I’d guess 9 to 11, somewhere round there

          3) Career/Role in Story: side character, either the MC’s lil sibling or the kid they stumble upon and unofficially adopt

          4) Personality: Sweet and playful, tends to be quiet but has a lick of mischief in her

          5) Would you be friends with that character?: She seems like a sweet girl, so yes

          6) Any other details you may have gotten from the picture: With the instrument, she either has musical training or knows someone who does, perhaps she’s part of a roving band of minstrels…

          7) What would this character’s nickname be?: Songbird, Little Melody

          8) Character’s greatest strength: She’s naturally charming, and it’s hard to be upset with her, and she sees beauty in places where others can’t

          9) Character’s fatal flaw: She’s naturally curious and can easily be lured away by things that are strange

          10) Phrase that this character is likely to say: No specific phrase, but she has a very soft voice

          11) Character’s favorite color(s): Warmer tones that remind her of cozy campfires around which stories are told and songs are sung

          12) Character’s family status (parents alive? any siblings or other close family members?): She’s either an orphan or a part of a travelling troupe of musical performers…

          13) Single or taken?: …she’s a baby. SINGLE.

          14) Characters children (if any?): cough, NO

          15) Characters hobbies: Music, likes collecting odd little trinkets and catching pretty bugs and critters

          16) Greatest fear: Being left alone in darkness

          17) Dreams and Aspirations: Wants to see the world and go on great adventures like the heroes of old stories

          18) Darkest Secret: unsure… she doesn’t look like she has one…

          19) Peculiarities: Her head is a library of memorized songs and tunes, and she finds a lot strange and odd creatures cute or pretty

          20) The meaning of their name, (Either real meaning or your own story meaning): Annalee just has a musical sound to it, and “lee” reminds me of the word ‘little’. Sylbard, Syl from ‘sylvan’ because she has a bit of wildness hidden behind the sweet smile, and ‘bard’ from the musical association.

          @ajstoryteller

            @inkhorn

            1. Name: Dorian or Ciaran

Edward Korsahn, but I usually just refer to him as Korsahn

            2. Age: somewhere around 45

eeeh, I struggle with the math too, uh, but I think it would be somewhere in his forties

            3. Career/Role in Story: he is the OC’s advisor and guide though we aren’t always sure he is always giving the best advice

…oh. oh no. he’s actually a villain… though the second part does apply

            4. Personality: easygoing, confident, usually means well, worldly (meaning he knows much about the world)

He definitely gives off that vibe, except for the well meaning part. He’s a bit dramatic and likes to think he’s two steps ahead of everyone else. He’s very calm and confident as long he is or can trick everyone else into believing he’s in control. He doesn’t trust easily, and never let’s anyone too close.

            5. Would you be friends with that character? Yes, but I would be cautious

Nope. He’ll try to flatter people and trick them into thinking he’s their friend, but he’s usually just keeping them around for their usefulness. If he does enjoy someone’s company, he has tendency to become controlling and to ensure that they don’t leave him.

            6. Any other details noticed? He seems to be introducing himself, has a sharp face, and is surrounded by a strange shadow

shadow is stylistic choice mostly, born from me discovery on new tool in my art program lol. But yes, he is supposed he introducing himself as he is a very friendly guy and is looking for new “business partners”

            7. Nickname: Key (based on the name Ciaran)

Not sure, but he does have an alias for villainous activities

            8. Greatest Strength: observant

He is. He really knows how to spot weaknesses and strengths in people and to trigger the responses he wants from them.

            9. Fatal Flaw: while he means well, he doesn’t always weigh the guidance he gives

Maybe pride? I’m not sure, but he does grow to hate one MC because they’ve directly insulted his status as the one in control, and in a way got through his defenses. It was a device of sorts that he prided himself on for being impossible for others to control. In comes 14 year old child who proceeds to take control of it himself. In reality, it was a small thing, insignificant to the overall plan, but it exposed a weakness/oversight, and Korsahn can’t have that.

            10. Phrase this character is likely to say: “It’ll work out fine, trust me.”

Yes. He would… while planning to stab the person he’s saying it to in the back

            11. Character’s family status: one sister, parents, everyone’s alive yet estranged from him

            Orphan. No siblings.

            12. Single or taken? Single

Currently. He’s had several relationships, but because he either becomes controlling or apathetic, none of them lasted for long

            13. Children? None

One. A sweet girl named Leah.

            14. Hobbies: acting, studying people’s habits and reactions to their environment

…right on the nose. He most definitely loves people watching, and loves theater and literature. Probably a bookworm.

            15. Greatest Fear: not having an answer to any situation

Losing control, loving someone and being betrayed/abandoned by them, being manipulated by someone else. Ironically all of things he does/will do to others

            16. Dreams and Aspirations: uh, I don’t know
<p style=”text-align: left;”>To be in control and to not have to worry about his fears</p>
            18. Darkest Secret: his wanting to have an answer to every situation stems from when he failed a friend because he did not know what to do

I don’t know have one particular secret, but because he feels that he can’t trust anyone, well, there are a lot of things he’s hidden

            19. Peculiarities: polishes his shoes when he is nervous, straightens his tie when in an awkward situation

Not sure about any nervous ticks yet, but he doesn’t really care if people think he’s a bad person nor does he hide it. Currently, in the public eye he’s a wealthy suave jerk known for stealing ideas from other companies, and his love life’s tragedies are notorious.

            20. Meaning of their name: Ciaran means “dark” but I chose that because of the lighting not so much of his personality;

Korsahn I made up, and Edward because I wanted something that sounded a bit pretentious. I apologize to the other Edwards out there.

Thank you for interviewing him! I still see some flat bits in his character that I need to round out, but it’s less than there was before.

Wow. I was a lot closer than I thought I was.

She sounds like a really cool character… in both meanings of the word lol

                  @emma-walker

oooh she’s pretty! sorry I haven’t been on in a while

                  1) Name: Angelica or something elegant sounding

                  2) Age: late teens, early twenties

                  3) Career/Role in Story: side character or main character

                  4) Personality: Rather intense. She puts passion into everything she does. Tends to be serious most of the time and is very perceptive of her surroundings… she’s either the voice of reason or the reason the group is in trouble. There is no inbetween.

                  5) Would you be friends with that character?: I think so.

                  6) Any other details you may have gotten from the picture: Her clothes aren’t of a typical modern styling, so I assume this is fantasy. Also her eyes are very icy and I keep thinking of Elsa or one of my own characters.

                  7) What would this character’s nickname be?: Ice queen lol. I don’t really know… Angel or maybe something about her stubbornness

                  8) Character’s greatest strength: She’s firm in her beliefs and doesn’t take trash from anyone.

                  9) Character’s fatal flaw: She has a hard time accepting when she’s wrong, and refuses to run away from danger and tries to handle all of her problems by herself.

                  10) Phrase that this character is likely to say: “Of course it’s a good plan. It was my plan.”

                  12) Character’s family status (parents alive? any siblings or other close family members?): Either a well-to-do family or she’s an orphan

                  13) Single or taken?:  single

                  14) Characters children (if any?): none

                  15) Characters hobbies: Archery and fencing

                  16) Greatest fear: Finding a problem she can’t fix on her own

                  17) Dreams and Aspirations: I’m not sure.

                  18) Darkest Secret: She buries her weaknesses under an icy facade. Not really a secret, but its something she keeps hidden at all times

                  19) Peculiarities: She likes small details in things. The tiny geometrics in snowflakes, speckles in butterfly wings, those are the sorts of things she enjoys seeing. Notices similar tiny details in the people she meets too.

                  20) The meaning of their name, (Either real meaning or your own story meaning): Something relating to beauty or grace

@emma-walker I was kind of thinking of switching between characters, depending on where Samantha goes.

It would start with her on a beach, a large city behind her with towering sky scrapers near its center.
I’m a bit busy at the moment, so I’m not sure how quickly I’ll be able to respond, but I will when I can.

                      @inkhorn

                      1) Name: Callahan, Uriah, or Raiden

                      Michael

                      2) Age: Um, late twenties, early thirties

He’s fifteen actually, but he’s good at fooling people into thinking he’s very mature for his age

                      3) Career/Role in Story: the MC’s voice of reason?

He’s one of six MCs and is usually the voice of reason or tries to be

                      4) Personality: mild, tries to avoid conflict if possible, logical, responsible, caring, innocent in a not so innocent way (if that makes sense XD)

                      Honestly, you’re pretty spot on

He’s normally very calm and tries to rationalize situations. He can be a bit stubborn at times. He is a very caring person and is great at handling situations diplomatically. He hates seeing others with power refuse to use it for good. Your last bit does make since in my mind, as he is very aware of how the world works, but has yet to experience it for himself.

                      5) Would you be friends with that character?: I think so, yes

                      Yes. Definitely.

                      6) Any other details you may have gotten from the picture: he seems artistic (from his jacket) and also seems like he’s slightly confused at what/who he’s seeing

He is artistic and naturally curious. He hates unanswered questions.

                      7) What would this character’s nickname be?: Mr. Thinker (that sounds so corny)

Sunshine, Glowstick… these make more sense if you now about his powers

                      8) Character’s greatest strength: his care for others

He is a very caring individual and will jump to help or defend someone else

                      9) Character’s fatal flaw: sometimes makes to great a sacrifice to avoid conflict

He hates asking for help and burdening others with his problems. Also, he has difficulty starting new relationships out of fear that others only want to friends with him because they want something from him.

                      10) Phrase that this character is likely to say: “What will it take for you to listen to me?”

“This is a horrible idea. Yes I’ll still help, I just felt like that needed to be acknowledged.”

                      11) Character’s favorite color(s): electric blue

I associate him with gold, silver, and black, but royal blue is also a color I associate with his dad

                      12) Character’s family status (parents alive? any siblings or other close family members?): adopted with five siblings who are also adopted

Dad is alive, they have a very close relationship, mother disappeared in a tragic event, and he technically doesn’t have any siblings, but he does have some close family friends who are practically family, two of which function as his annoying and protective big brother and sister.

                      13) Single or taken?: single; not ready to be in a relationship

Single, but he has a bit of a crush on the girl who saved his life

                      14) Characters children (if any?): none

                      None

                      15) Characters hobbies: playing a musical instrument, photography

Sketching and painting. He does have a swiss army knife assortment of skills, so I’m very certain those things are within his field of knowledge, which includes things from picking locks to ballroom dancing.

His family made sure he was very well educated.

                      16) Greatest fear: that he might intentionally hurt those he loves (don’t ask me how XD)

I think it’s failure. Failure to help, letting his family down. Also discovering a dark family secret and what it means about who he is. And losing what’s left of his family. I don’t think I can really sum it up to one, let’s say he has quite a few problems.

                      17) Dreams and Aspirations: travel the world taking pictures of plants, mountains, animals, cities, etc.

He isn’t sure what he wants, outside of having his family safe and whole again. He’s a bit of a romantic, and probably just wishes he had someone who’d brighten up his world.

                      18) Darkest Secret: sometimes wishes that he could get away from his family and friends

He doesn’t know what it is yet. He knows there is one, but its nature is a secret.

                      19) Peculiarities: randomly stares off into space, doodles on anything close to him if bored, chews his lip when taking a picture

                      First two definitely.

As mentioned before, he has a strange amount of knowledge about a strange assortment of things and is a scarily fast learner. Also, if a mystery really bugs him, he’ll get invested and obsessed. He also is an insomniac and the only time he’s slept in-story so far was the result of a concussion.

                      20) The meaning of their name, (Either real meaning or your own story meaning): all the names I listed above are related to light

The light meaning really works with his powers. Unfortunately, I named him when I was too young to consider clever names, but I’m far to attached to ‘Michael’ now to change it.

I love your artwork! They’re so good! Do you have any tips about drawing characters?

Thank you! I’m not sure what I can do for tips, I am just winging it half the time. I’d say don’t be afraid to use references, and it helps to understand the basic shapes and proportions of people and creatures. As for the design, like the traits and colors themselves, figure out what you want someone to think or gather from this character at a glance. That’s all I can think of at the moment.
Thank you for guessing, you actually got really close with him!

Perhaps if she’s a sailor, she wound up in this world during a storm?

Portals to other worlds are likely to appear in such chaos, and look like swirling vortexes of natural materials nearby, with light and music also coming from them.

So in a wild storm at sea, one forms in front of Samantha, made of lightning, wind, and water. A song comes from it, a peaceful tune drastically contrasting the chaos around her. Before she knows what to make of it, the ship is pitched by a wave and she’s sent forward into the gateway…

Do you want her to be an otherworldly traveler accidentally stranded in the city, or someone already living in the world?

The world, which I’m currently calling Terra, is mostly under the impression that fantastical beings and other worlds don’t exist, and is similar to ours in that and in technology.

Sea Side Point is a bit strange as a result, as several fantastical things have happened there, but the information never seems to reach the rest of the world.

I hope I’m not making this more complicated than it needs to be…

I understand. I was tempted to join one of the character castles but the amount of people already there is a bit intimidating…

I will be starting a new one today, if anyone is interested.
