@wordsmith Hmm. I guess that’s why you find writing book report sort of essays easier than I do. (At least I feel like we’ve had the conversation before…) I don’t really have problems talking about books. Perhaps it’s more of the writing style of a book report that drains me of my energy and thoughts. *shrugs*
Oh neat. I’ve never read anything…[Read more]

@wordsmith Interesting! I have never heard the idea that there is such a thing as a “reading writer” or a “writing โฆwriter(?)” What books did you check out?
2022. How’s graduation coming for you? ๐

@wordsmith Hahaha, yes that irony is gold.
(lol and what did I just do?? Sorry, I didn’t even realize it until I said it. ๐ )
Indeed. ๐
Quick answer: Not forever, just I feel like I need a break. As in I probably won’t work seriously on novels for the rest of high school. The one exception would be NaNoWriMo. (Because.) And then who…[Read more]

*nods* I have just a small thing to say here. This thought floated through my mind just now as I read “I’m still a writer, and I still love talking writing“, and I found it surprisingly comforting. I have come to think of my writing hobby as a dear friend and, if I ever have to give it up, I think I can say with some certainty that I’d…[Read more]

*gasps* I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT APPLE CIDER OMW!!! Thanks for getting it! ๐
Thanks! I’m a little scared cause the last, and only other, time I tried to write a mystery, it ended up being five pages of really badly written Sherlock Holmes fanfiction. :/

@wordsmith Hey, sorry to hear you’ve gotten tackled by every writer’s greatest enemy, but dude. What happened to your impressive martial skills???ย ๐
Seriously though, I hope that doesn’t mean anything bad, but that the demands have increased because of good and healthy business growth. Don’t forget that its not just a job but that you’re…[Read more]

@wordsmith oh, my friend. XD you are something. I’m glad we are officially friends now.
Unfortunately, the past month has been . . . awful. Well, at least when it comes to time. It’s nice to be making money, but balancing two jobs sucks. And the holidays are coming, which means that since I work retail, I will be dead from Black Friday until…[Read more]

J. Dekreel started the topic Quick Question About Quotation Marks (And Other Grammar Questions) in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 6 months ago
Okay, this question/problem has been floating around in my head for weeks now and I figured this forum is probably the best place for me to clear it up.
So in the following two sentences:
1) Is it rude in this country to use the term “flabbergasted“?
2) Is it rude in this country to use the term “flabbergasted?”That quotation mark/question…[Read more]

@wordsmith Anytime! Thanks for tagging me; I’m always happy to help. 😊
My writing is going okay! I’m currently in the middle of planning my edits, after getting feedback from a professional editor. Hopefully November will see me editing away and by next year I’ll be finished pretty much all the edits I can do.

@jane-maree Yes, that does answer my question. Thank you so much! I’ll have to do a little editing to separate out the omniscient sections. ๐

Thanks for tagging me, Buddy!
It is okay to switch between omniscient third, and close/limited third, but it’s best and most effective to split it very clearly from the main text, otherwise the POV won’t feel as genuine for the rest of the chapter.
I’d recommend making a short interlude/aside ‘chapter’ for these…[Read more]

Yesssss…. SO much better than the tv series…

(I agree with Buddy on the point of Caedon wouldn’t refer to his father as anything besides “father.” That bugged me a little as I read it.)

@wordsmith Thank you for your observation about cohesion! I think that’s what’s been bugging me about this WIP. I still have a lot to learn about writing in third person, it seems. Now to decide whether to make this story omniscient or limited. I’ll have to…[Read more]

Ah yes… Part of my WIP… This, Buddy, wraps back around to our conversation yesterday about the novel outlining… Last night I actually started writing it. The outline, that is. I’m going to see if I can make the plans for a short story I was thinking about into a longer piece. Novel-sized. *shrugs* I won’t paste…[Read more]

Aah, here is. ๐ @wordsmith
Caedon cast one more look across the landscape. The early mists of morning rose from the ground and coiled around the shattered stones. But there was something more. Caedonโs eyes narrowed. In the misty shadows stood a tall figure in a black cloak. Caedon rubbed his eyes and looked again. The figure was moving deeper i…[Read more]

@anne_the_noob14 @wordsmith You know what something unexpected is? Accidentally pressing the wrong button and refreshing your Story Embers page so that it deletes your current post. I never see it coming.

@wordsmith And it cut off the statement I referred to. I quote it here instead:
“What you are arguing is the idea that the unexpected is something that can be expected, when really that merely changes the word unexpected to expected, and thus it is no longer unexpected, it is expected. The unexpected must provide with it some sort of extra…[Read more]

@wordsmith *shakes head* The fact that something can be explained doesn’t necessarily mean it can be expected.* For example, I can explain how aliens could take over earth. But that doesn’t mean it can be expected. I can explain how I could go about murdering somebody. But that doesn’t mean it can be (or should be) expected.
*In reality, I…[Read more]
