@jared-williams incidentally, I’ve just recently recovered from a two week long bout of Covid as well XD
Name meanings are so cool! I used to really be into name meanings, but now I mainly pick names based on the sound or aesthetic.
There was one really cool coincidence though, where I had two opposing characters who accidentally ended up with…[Read more]

awesome! and a well-written post! I liked how you portrayed the dance, her worries, and her euphoria in the perfect moment.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it!
That bird/mythology/literature name theme is cool! (Turkey? XD) Crow seems to just fit Calliope.
Thank you! 😀

After listening to the boy rambling, Arsene finally spoke. “I’ll open the safe.”
Gently setting Lady Crorie down, Arsene continued. “After I open the safe, we’ll leave the ferry.”
Leaping onto the safe, Arsene powered up. Putting his hands against the safe, Arsene channeled the black nether.
“Before we leave,” the boy started, “You should know…[Read more]

That bird/mythology/literature name theme is cool! (Turkey? 😂) Crow seems to just fit Calliope. I did a floral theme in Between Here and Fairyland. My MC was Malai, which is a Thai name meaning “garland of flowers.” She was a flower seller and flower garlands were an important symbol in the book. Some of her family member…[Read more]

Ophelia
Abirami and Jade were struggling. Abirami seemed completely clueless about what to do. It was hardly his fault, Jade hadn’t given him many explanations or enough time to actually learn it.
I watched with deep amusement as he seemed to be trying to walk on his toes without actually managing it.
Jade danced well, but wasn’t nearly as good…[Read more]

Glad you’re back! I love those names! Naming characters something that actually means something is very fun, especially when it has the right sound as well!
I’ve been having a lot of fun with that for the Murder of Swans’ characters XD For all of them, I tried to reference either mythology or literature. Except for…[Read more]

It would be best if you gave me a link to the document. Do you want to put it in this Castle room, or the one I recently saw you posted about beta reading? (I’m guessing it’s the same story?)
Abirami’s mother, Aefflaed, is Anglo-Saxon and means “elf-beauty”
Yes, I noted that name! It’s pretty, and similar to Anglo-Saxon…[Read more]

Abirami
Ophelia and Isaias danced across the stage. They were so elegant!
They were so close!
My cheeks burned. Isaias lifted Ophelia so gracefully, and she flew through the air, but I wasn’t transfixed by the flight. I was transfixed by how close they were. There was barely any space between them.
I’d never been that close to a woman before.…[Read more]

Awesome.
I’d say the favorite name I’ve given a character… that’s a hard one. Probably still say Setti. Not only is his name’s meaning fitting, but Setti is ancient Egyptian and is another name for Seth.
Setti’s parents were named Asur and Iside. Asur is another name for Osiris, and Iside is the Italian name for Isis, the…[Read more]

I’m a bit late, but I thought I’d just say “yes” to this ⬆️. I’ve lived (and been injured) in very cold climates (-45, plus windchill). Never have I or anyone I know had a wound freeze over. Though we do tend to stay inside a lot at that -40 mark 😂.

🤣 that was hilarious!
Practice went according to Jade’s plan until she neared Abirami. She leaned toward him so he could pick her up, and then it seemed to take as long as a Destiny ceremony for him to figure out what he should do. Once he finally lifted her into the air, Jade outstretched her arms as a bird would its wings. Then Abirami s…[Read more]

You’re looking for beta readers? I’m totally willing to do that! When would you want me to start? The story sounds good!
I have LOTS of characters in my novels… what helps me is when picking the names, I always look at what the names mean first, then pick a name that gives meaning to the character, which helps me determine what…

Abirami
The glass spoke of allowing the dance, providing food, and then having to reveal your worst regrets.
The food part sounded alright, but revealing ones worst regret? Was that the castle’s form of payment for services rendered?
I shrugged. I could see it being problematic for some here. No way Ku would be willing, but I had already owned…[Read more]

You’d have thought Arsene had never seen Alessio use his powers for all the racket he was making.
Yes it’s a stupid wall of fire, and you vanish things out of existence so I think we’re even! Water was pouring out the ceiling, even worse than most rainstorms he’d been caught it. That. was not fun.
Arsene actually looked a lot more panicke…[Read more]

“THERE’S A WALL OF FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Arsene didn’t know whether to laugh or scream, when the paranoid boy jumped onto the safe with him.
“Why haven’t you already used your power to get whatever’s inside the safe and climb through a…that–” He half shrieks, while pointing at a vent. “-while I cause a distraction?”…[Read more]

YES! It does make it more enjoyable, because I get to appreciate it twice in one watch/read: Once for the sheer entertainment of it, and another for how it works (or doesn’t, lol).
Exactly! Plus, it’s even fun to read objectively bad things because it lowers your standards for published books and makes your writing seem better in c…[Read more]
