@j-a-penrose I LOVE that idea! Let’s compose our own song! How about we base it on a verse?
Parimis?

Hmmm… My first thought is that maybe we should try to write a song ourselves? Use what skills we have as writers and put together what we believe to be the most true? I’m more than happy to compose it in a music form, that’s another hobby of mine.

@cassie-hartfinh Even though I love “Set the World on Fire”, I agree with @steward-of-the-pen about the song. As for “Burn Like a Star”, I like it too, but it seems like there could be a better fit. I’d suggest discussing a few more songs before we make our final decision. 🙂

@sarah-vdh I know, right?!
@steward-of-the-pen Yeah, I see what you’re saying. It’s hard for me to choose, because I like your song for the lyrics, but I like mine for the style. Maybe we should try to find a happy medium? I might know a couple other songs, perhaps by Rich Mullins. He was good at mixing the best of both worlds.

@cassie-hartfinh Ah, I can see how that fits, but I sill like the other one better. Burn Like a Star is more clear that it’s about us being made for God’s glory to fulfill his dreams rather than God fulfilling our dreams. I think the lyrics are deeper in that they’re more focused on God than on us. Like this part:

We will not have a prompt war, and are instead going to focus on churning out words.

@taylorclogston Okay, I see where you’re coming from.
You said:
As said in the opening post, these sorts of characters’ words have a direct impact on the plot and how other characters act, but the action itself is prompted by something that comes out of nowhere.
And I get that. I’ve also found it annoying when that happens, though in the i…[Read more]

@evelyn I feel like it’s less that the characters don’t deserve to be listened to in-universe and more that the author is using them to deliver something that’s supposed to be meaningful without doing the work beforehand. As said in the opening post, these sorts of characters’ words have a direct impact on the plot and how other characters act,…[Read more]

Hey guys,
So I figured it’d be nice if we could demonstrate some of our ideas in action- also, I had some characters I really wanted to write. Thus, I made a thread for if anyone wanted to write a short story for a particular concept they had, and wanted to show how it might actually look in the setting. Kind of like beta testing; if we see…[Read more]

This is actually one of my pet peeves, and I don’t know whether it should be or not =P I’ve always felt authors intend these sorts of characters to have weight and mystery and merit without actually earning it, and it bugs the heck out of me. I don’t like Gandalf’s role in the H…[Read more]

Have you ever read that book where you kept reading and there was this one subplot character that you just could NOT work out? The rando who turned up to offer wisdom, then vanishes? Maybe they tag around as a mentor figure, but are constantly off doing there own thing behind the scenes? Two very different examples of this that I can think of, are…[Read more]
