@shadowwriter161, I’m not sure, since I learned mostly from different art books. What style are you interested in learning?
Haha, you’re fine. 😉 That’s really neat! π
Something I love about writing is the ability to put the stories on my heart onto a page and explore truths. The hard thing for me is that I love stories and the characters I…[Read more]

@shadowwriter161, Ah, that’s okay. 😁
You’re welcome! And I’m happy that you’re here!
Well, like I said, I haven’t been very active lately, but it is fun. And it’s really helpful since I’m both an artist and a writer. 😃 You should learn!! You’re never too old to learn to draw or paint.
So, since all my go-to questions were already asked on this…[Read more]

IKR? It’s like asking an author what their favorite/best WIP is! π
Mm, that is almost as hard, lol! Maybe G. A. Henty…or Baroness Orczy? They are definitely favorites. Laura Hillenbrand is an amazing nonfiction modern writer, as well.

@shadowwriter161, Well, this is really late, and I haven’t been active on this site in forever, but I just wanted to say hey, and welcome to Story Embers!
By the way, your profile picture is adorable!! Did you draw it?

@shadowwriter161 Classic disney is the best! One of my favorites is either Peter Pan or Robin Hood. The Great Mouse Detective is a great one too! What are some of your favorites?
@steward-of-the-pen ^_^ Thanks! I can’t believe I wrote that like 3 years ago, lol! It’s so true when it comes to characters though. Like, I find that a lot of my…[Read more]

Yeah, I agree with you. The title of the writing test is a little confusing unless you realize that, though. π
How long is it? I could read it! XD

Ah, yes, I love Fawkes as well! It is so amazing. π I don’t think I have a go-to book like that as I would have to choose one for every genre, except for the Bible. XD

@shadowwriter161 You’re very welcome! Forster didn’t invent the idea of the flat character, but his notes on it here are the most famous discussion on them. (also, in case it wasn’t clear, emphasis in that post was from me, not from the original text)

You can find them on Amazon, or by going to her website, which I believe is linked on her profile!

“In their purest form, (flat characters) are constructed round a single idea or quality: when there is more than one factor in them, we get the beginning of the curve towards the round. The really flat character can be expressed in one sentence such as ‘I never will desert Mr. Micawber.’ There is Mrs. Micawberβshe says she w…[Read more]

Oh dear, running out of books… I’d try Hope Ann’s novellas if I were you, they sound right up your alley. (She’s on SE btw). (Also I’m eagerly awaiting the day she publishes her full-length WIP that I’ve been wanting to read for years now lol)
And if you like hi-fi stuff, Man O’ War by Walter Farley is a great book that I…[Read more]

I think a lot of the test has to do with how you understand writing mechanics more than actual writing, because I mean, I can take it and get advanced as well because I know how to write character arcs and what makes a good antagonist and what looks like good/bad writing…. but that doesn’t mean all of that is always applied to…[Read more]

Aw, thanks so much!
Haha, yeah, it’s a big pet peeve of mine when characters seem to similar to the author/to similar to each other, and since I read a lot of fanfiction, I’ve gotten pretty good at spotting it out, since when writing/reading fanfiction it’s usually pretty obvious if a character is OOC.
Personally, I get annoyed…[Read more]

Thank you! I’m so glad it helped. Haha, I’ve actually thought about writing a few articles for SE but never seem to have the time to sit down and think one out(plus, I tend to ramble something terrible and there’s a word limit I believe XD).

Great question! I read a ton of history and historical fiction, and some others (like mystery, contemporary, fantasy, etc…) occasionally. What are some of your favorite his-fic books you’ve read? Do you read a lot? I read like 200+ books a year…a lot. π

Of course not, lol! I thought it might be kinda cool, and then I can see what I liked best, or rather, what the pluses and minuses were. π

XD! I have thought about it somewhat, and I think it will depend on which book, as far as whether I use self-publishing or traditional. I might use different methods for different books. π
I agree, though…right now it is ‘finish the books’, (and finish school) first!
