@rochellaine I’m doing good. I’m entering a writing contest next week, where you write a short story under 1,000 words in 48 hours. ๐
Does 15 minutes sound good?

I have eight of the Elsie books and have never liked any of them ๐ As @rochellaine said, way too dramatic and ridiculous, as well as suffering from some unfortunate racial portrayals (as does pretty much any book from the time).

Yeah, I agree with you. There is not any 1900’s Christian fiction that I really like, let alone profit from, anymore. The Elsie books were fine for when I was younger, but they are very melodramatic and highly unrealistic to me now! It becomes obvious very fast that Martha Finley never got married and had a family of her…[Read more]

@rochellaine Eh, its been several years.ย And yes 1800s Christian fiction is way melodramatic. ๐
I didnt really care why they screamed, mad, happy, whatever.ย It was just a problem.
Yeah, that makes sense.

Hey, I don’t mind the Elsie Dinsmore books! I am curious as to whether you read them, though, Rochellaine. ๐ I thought they were pretty cool, and they were a good influence for me at the time when I read them.

@rochellaine *covers ears* Ahg, I remember all of them screaming! Except maybe the mother.I got like two or three books into it I think, only because it was on our curiculum.ย ย But my Mom let me stop because I was already dealing with migraines during school and when all they did was scream and tell stories or the “dear little brown house” (…[Read more]

Okay, cool! I love researching random facts and things, as well. And the Pepper books drive me crazy with all the screaming, as well, lol.

@rochellaine, ah my mistake. I tend to click on everyone’s google docs links (being interested in reading what they have to say) but if you wish to keep it private, no worries. My apologies if I was too nosy.

@rochellaine UGH! ๐ I hate the Pepper books!ย They are always screaming.

Sounds like awesome research! I don’t know much about that, though it is familiar as well. Let us know what you find out…and if I find anything, I’ll let you know. ๐

Hi Rochellaine! My name is Lindsey and I’m rather new to the forum. I’ve been stalking this conversation for a long while because it’s hard to find fellow historical fictioners. (Most people write fantasy, lol…and for someone who doesn’t, it’s kinda hard to find anyone to relate to).
I think you and I have a LOT in common, and I…[Read more]

@rochellaine There are two elements that come to my mind, which I think can work separatelyย or in tandem.
1. The betrayal of conviction.
Basically, think of a die-hard zealot watching the leader they’ve idolized and followed for so long renounce what he’s said and done. It would make them furious; all their former passionate support would…[Read more]
