Either way is fine. It would be best if there were two different pieces of writing, each from a different characters’ PoV. You could write two completely different scenes, or you could do something like I’m thinking about doing and write the same (or similar) scene from two different PoVs. That would show the contrast a lot. A…[Read more]

  • Excellent character voice is extremely hard to pull off, and so like I do with all hard things in life, I decided to make a game out of it.

    It’s a joke.

    I’m kidding.

    Mostly. 😉

Anyways, to the point. Character voice makes everything from dialogue to normal scenery descriptions pop off the page, but, for me at least, it is a very difficult…[Read more]

    Alright, that makes sense.

Ah yes, 1984 is on my list. What would you give it on a 1-10 scale?

Yep, I agree, La-vi-na it is.

Lavyna was my fav as well, but I was just worried that readers would pronounce it La–vin–a.
Well, that’s just great. xD I’ll keep that connotation in mind from now on, but I’m fairly certain that everytime I’ve used that word was to mean calm and composed, showing little or no emotion–like a stone. So, yeah, I suppose I might have to tweak a…[Read more]

    Two completely random questions:
How would you write a name that sounded like ‘La–v–na
    Laveena? Lavena? Lavyna? Something else?
Secondly, when you read/hear the word ‘placid,’ do you think calm, relaxed, and peaceful? Or do you think calm, unreadble, great aplomb, and like a lesser version of stoney? My mind is trained to…[Read more]

Hmm, let me think of some spellings. Laveyna, Lavina, Lavinia, and those you mentioned…
I like Lavyna best! That’s a really pretty name, whatever spelling you choose!
Well, I always think of placid as calm and contented, and just generally completely unbothered. It does have the connotation of being calm for me. You can always…[Read more]

Wait, you’re not supposed to pronounce it “La-vi-na”? I can’t think of any spelling that would sound like “La-v-na” except just that, Lavna. (Maybe Lahvna, or Lavnah but that looks a bit odd.) Sorry for the misunderstanding XD
Honestly, I like the sound of “La-vi-na” more. I find “Lavna” rather odd to pronounce, but that may be just…[Read more]

It’s about a small-time, snarky thief, Hugon, roped into double heist in the palace as he struggles with betrayal and abandonment issues.

Cathy, I’m not that bad at book blurbs. xD The book I was describing was my second novel that I finished a few weeks ago (not TTD). It’s quite hard to describe, but I’m w…[Read more]

I’m currently just referring to it as the “Gilded Blood” trilogy, after the first book. I need some collective title but I can’t come up with anything XD

Gilded blood isn’t a bad name for a series, and many people just name their first book’s title the series title.

Hi! It’s nice to meet you!

Hey Rose, I was able to finish up some stuff today, so you’re welcome to share you beta document and book with me as soon as you’re ready.

Basically, it’s a chosen one that isn’t the main character. It’s almost as though the story is told from the perspective of a side character, and it gives really interesting dynamics. It’s an idea that’s always intrigued me and I’m planning to write even more of it in the mystery story.

Oh, you have this is your trilogy? Wh…[Read more]

If you’re trying to find interesting ideas, I suggest you not fixate on a government specifically as your dehumanizing system. You *can* use that, but you might find new ideas by moving away from it.

Absolutely agree, which is why I listed it as one of the things I prefer to not have–or at least to have it not feature in a big w…[Read more]

Ohhh, you have a Byzantine character?? I’ve never read one of those, I can’t wait to meet her!

That’s exactly what I’m wanting. Just random ideas you have that I can think on and make new ideas from. 🙂

  • Alrighty y’all, I love the dystopian genre, and I’ve been wanting to begin plotting a series for a while now, but unique and fresh plot ideas have been escaping me.

I consider the defining features of a vast amount of dystopian novels to be what I call the Big Three:

    • An oppressive and autocratic government that is usually lying to its people…

So I’ve read some of the Letter for the King, but I thought you would find something that happened rather amusing. My sister than told my mother, and the latter started…[Read more]

How long is your series so far? Do you have a theme?

I’ve only written the first book, but I’m planning to have it be a five book series. The first one came in at a little over 190k words, and the rest will be at least slightly longer than that…[Read more]
