I like Seth Godin, Purple Cow is a great book. This is all true, but it’s essentially saying the same thing all writers tell you, which is “Push through it even if it means writing trash!”.
Very good advice though, and it’s always good to hear it again. ๐

Nice! 15.5k is great! So, you mentioned you finished your first draft of you YA fantasy, are you in th editing stage for it now? Or what are you currently working on?
I am currently reading Skyward, so make sure that no spoilers slip off your tongue. ๐ Yes, Spensa is the shining star of that book. ๐ Jerkface (aka, Jorgen,…[Read more]

Brian my friend, I’m not asking because I think I need to writing a certain speed. I’m asking because I’m curious. ๐ You are correct that it doesn’t matter what a writer’s current speed is, and again, I didn’t ask to compare myself to others to see how much better I needed to get. However, as in all academic and…[Read more]

Nearly 2k words an hour? Wow Rose, you’ve got skills. I also type fairly fast, but I’m only just now getting to the point where I can get close to 1k words an hour. If you can even do 1500 words an hour, you could breeze through NaNoWriMo. You could pump out 6k words a day with just four hours in the morning. You should do NaNoWriMo and then…[Read more]

Okay y’all, I’m curious about a couple things. First off, for those of you who aren’t total beginners (you’ve been writing consistently and with a purpose for a few months or more), approximately how many words do you writer per hour ? Or at least try to write per hour, I know it can vary greatly, and writers get faster and faster the more the…[Read more]

To be honest Bethania, you can do pretty great organization with google drive using well arranged folders, documents, and bulleted or numbered lists. If you want some sort of timeline tool for events, something like Sutori could be useful. Now, it becomes more and more useful to have a special tool (like Scrivener) the bigger the…[Read more]

Hey Natalie! A writing mentor would be fantastic to have, in particular one who is a successful full time writer (or has been in the past), as having a mentor or private tutor in many academic or career areas would be. However, it is very possible to teach yourself writing, by using the many online or book resources on how to write…[Read more]

There are nefarious deeds happening in most places, but I think youtube is still a fine place, there are some pretty good booktubers on there right now.
I need to start carrying a notebook around scribbling in it. ๐

I’ve been trying to get up at a good time each morning and write for a while, and then whenever else I have time. College and school is about to start up so it’s going to get tough. I’m about 32k words into my WIP, working on chapter ten right now.
I do not have a website, but I’m considering making a youtube channel or website to talk about…[Read more]

I’m doing fine Brian. ๐ My taste still isn’t quite back, but otherwise I’m over it.

Very glad to hear you are over it. I think the taste and smell issue is one of those things that linger but will come back. Hang in there. Praying for your full recovery.

Agreed. Fishtails are great (even though the name isn’t very esteeming xD)
I like both those descriptions, I just need to hire you to describe all my characters’ hair. xD The second one is more specific, but only if people know what a fishtail braid is, so that could impair some readers’ experience.

Hey Rose, how would you describe hairstyles 1 and 8 from the following link in writing?https://www.allthingshair.com/en-us/hairstyles-haircuts/vintage-hairstyles/medieval-hairstyles/

Okay, lemme see if I can help. By one, I assume you mean the first described one, not the first picture.
It could work! It’d have to be sewn in place, (With yarn for example) but they did that quite frequently. I’d describe it as: “A thick braid coiled in the nape of her neck.” Also, it’s a fairly secure hairstyle, and I think it’d be fairly…[Read more] -

Ooh, that one’s pretty as well! Oof, fishtail braids. My fingers are aching at the thought XDI’d describe it as: “The front of her hair was braided into a crown that trailed off into braid in the back. The rest of her hair flowed around her shoulders.”
That is…[Read more]

Don’t worry, it happens all the time. *shrug*
Exactly, the name is rather unfortunate XD
Valid point, but you can make up what it is from the context, so even if your reader doesn’t know what a fishtail braid is, they’ll know it’s a kind of braid, so they’ll get a very similar image to someone who does know.
You’ll get the hang of it!…[Read more]

Let me know how you are doing through this.
I’m going to pray for you right now if you don’t mind. Some people say they will pray, but never actually do it, so I tend to do it in written form, for scriptures say when any 2 or 3 are gathered in agreement in His name, He hears us.
