@kr-lalonde I’m a huge fan of free writing when stuck. Definitely give it a try!

@kr-lalonde it’s so hard sometimes, finding the motivation to get at a project. I can totally relate.
Is your current project something you really love? Maybe the reason it’s not working for you is that you’re not excited about that particular story concept anymore.

Yes! I definitely agree. On my novella I ended up changing it from a medieval setting to gas lamp Victorian style and it was a big change but made it so much better.
Oh yes. Change just because can be a killer.

the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Janelle Hovde’s Raven’s Heir—a novella in the Five Poisoned Apples collection. There are spiritual powers, but no magic, and it’s a medieval kind of world. I’m sure I know more though, so I’ll keep thinking.

These are all great points! Coming from both a writer and an editor, I loved your point about not fearing change. There can be so many times throughout the process of writing a book where you have to choose between sticking to the original idea, or moving on to an addition which could ultimately make your book sooo much better. It’s always hard, but important to do.
It’s also important not to just change for the sake of changing, because sometimes it can be for the worse. 😬

A Stray Drop of Blood by Roseanna M. White was the first one that popped into my mind.
Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is definitely another.
I wrote a short story about the thief on the cross with Jesus, so that’s not technically Easter, but it’s in the same weekend.
