  I concur on many points. However, writing characters ‘who stay humble through [their] triumph’ over inherent flaws ought not to be mandated. Dealing with the pride and arrogance that results from conquering darkness is one of the defining attributes of the human condition, and it should be addressed likewise. The Silmarillion & The Children of Húrin serve as poignant reminders of this.

Cool question. I guess the first thing I thought of was that the villain has to be more powerful in order to actually be good opposition. But I do agree with you, I think part of the actual why is that they do what they want. They’re not worried about doing right or being legal so they can pull power moves a hero couldn’t.

You guys are allowed to write together also, so if Kayla doesn’t have time, you guys are perfectly legal to go in and tweak anything you see. Just make sure you don’t get too crazy, and start arguing with each other over revisions etc. I think the core foundation of the story is really good, so it should be easy to smooth the wrinkles out.
