Looks like Maddie is judging. She’s often flat-out with her kids, so not sure when we will get the results. -

@writercatherine Eyyy nice! I also don’t typically label myself by HF, but at the moment, my Major Work is an HF short story and I’m actually really enjoying writing it. In a different way, of course.
Also, those are cool things to base short stories off. Do you feel you have a set style that you use when writing HF?

@ariella-newheart That’s beautiful!
@writercatherine Oooooh. I really like that. It’s actually giving me serious F451 vibes thanks to the mentioning of ashes and the fact that it’s a poem. I mean, I imagine after the ending of the book, that could be a type of resistance they’d start up: Writing poems everywhere.
Really cool!

And goodness, no. I did not expect that.

@trallion Hello and welcome!
Also, may I please proceed to getting excited because there’s a new composer here?? I have been composing for…around six years now. Crazy. I’m still not exactly a fan of all of my compos, mainly because I have to do most of them for school and school ruins everything creative. *sigh* But Music Theory is also heaps…[Read more]

@evelyn (That’s not a ton less than me, actually. *hides*)
@julia In that case (and any case) good job! 😀
@ariella-newheart Certainly was not just me at the end. But thanks! (And yes, we have magic. Magic is important. I spend my spare time inventing magic systems. Much magic. Un i eldacuru.)

As an introvert who lives in the middle of nowhere and is known for muttering, “humans” under her breath whenever she’s around other people, I have to say that I often find it hard to actually hang out with people…Even the writerly sort. I mean, what if they’re extroverts? What if there’s more than two of them?
Thankfully, Faith is here today…[Read more]

@mariposa Every time. XD
“Woohoo!” they all yelled, hugging each other (or, rather, the extroverts all hugged each other while the introverts calmly shook each other’s hands).

Apologies, I have to go for a while, so the doc will probably be fairly messy and disorganised for the rest of America’s day.

@christlover Yep! What Steward said. (If ever in doubt, scan over the instructions I put waaaay back at the start.) Also, I would assume you can describe other characters the same way you can for any other tense. Not going into their heads, but just writing them, yeah.
@pursuewisdom Oooh, also a cool idea. *adds to notebook*

On that note…
If we haven’t started on a draft in 24 hours, I’m probably just going to start writing. Just so that we definitely have something to hand in. *fingerguns* Ideally, I let you guys write the first draft so that you can practice and grow, but having something happening is the no. 1 priority.

@steward-of-the-pen I’m pretty sure we’re going with ‘You’ being the protagonist, and just actually having to deal with that. As for genre sort of thing, I’m taking a stab in the dark at fantasy, seeing as that is a distinctively different world compared to the one that they’re living in. Although, to be fair, whoever ends up writing this can just…[Read more]

@evelyn What Steward said.
Plot: I’m thiiiinking that we want to most likely start with a scene that displays ‘You’ as the author. Have them sitting down with a blank screen and pieces of paper covered in scrawl everywhere. Maybe if you then have someone come in to try and coax them away from the project because they’re getting sick, that…[Read more]

@evelyn Ooooh. similar to what the others have said. As far as I can tell, High Fantasy is referring to fantasy (any length as a novel) that has set and definite laws for magic, as well as a really well-developed world.
Low fantasy is often referring to kingdom fantasy where the ‘fantastical’ elements are excluded or lessened.
But yes! There…[Read more]
