@eden-anderson Funny you should bring this up, because I was just discussing this with my sister. So here’s what I think:
The number one thing that sets writers apart from non-writers is desire.
Sure, anyone can be a writer. But does anyone want to be one? I think not. So whether or not someone’s as “talented” as their peers, their desire is…[Read more]

@eden-anderson You like LotR. And classics. *wise nod* Yep, with this kind of taste, you just endeared yourself to every single clique Story Embers has. 😉 Your Raven story sounds interesting! Robin Hood is one of my favorite legends ever, so anytime someone has a character who reflects bits of him, I’m ready to blindly throw my lot in. My own…[Read more]

Very few poems make me read all the way to the end, but this was one of them. Bravo, Cindy. This spoke to my soul.

Sarah Baran started the topic Tips for Unsticking a Stuck Scene in the forum New Wessex Writing Discussions 7 years, 6 months ago
Hello, my wonderful Scribe Peoples! I thought I’d pop on real quick and share something I just discovered.
Lately, I’ve been dealing with the dreaded Stuck Scene. I know where I’m going, and I want to get there, but when I sit down to write, I just… can’t… get there. Everything seems gray and blah. My heart isn’t in it and I don’t even know…[Read more]

@eden-anderson Hello hello and welcome WELCOME!! I’m Sarah, the resident artist, elf, INTJ, and sarcastic crazy. Don’t disparage The Lord of the Rings, and we should get along just fine. 😉
And pleas, please don’t feel like you’re disturbing our little circle here. I’ll admit, I haven’t been very active in the guild lately, but even though I…[Read more]

Sarah Baran replied to the topic Let's talk about parents in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 6 months ago
You know, I’ve been thinking about this lately. And while I wish there were better parents in fiction, I can, to an extent, understand why a lot of authors choose to remove them from the picture. Plainly put, they’re lazy.
I’ve been planning an adventure story about a 10 year old girl with a set of functioning parents, and the reoccurring problem…[Read more]

*realizes she missed everything* Ah, well. YAAAAAAAY, great job, everyone! I wish I could’ve been more involved with this, but such is life. You guys did terrific on your own. 😉
And thank YOU, @Noahlitle, for writing the thing. I don’t think I ever mentioned this, but the POV was ADORABLE.

Aw, Kate. This warmed my cold heart just a teensy bit. The fact that you not only recognize the problem, but are mature enough to be taking steps (however hard) to overcome it makes me love you just a little bit more. (And, having struggled with this myself on numerous occasions, I can attest to how much of a pain it is. #IndependantIdiotsUnite )…[Read more]

Sorry I’ve been absent from a lot of this discussion, guys. My family just moved to another state and life has been in a state of constant upheaval. I’ll try and read both drafts sometime today and offer thoughts.

@ncstokes Ooooh yes. 😂😂😂 “WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR LONELY SOUL? WE STRIVE TOWARDS A HIGHER GOAL.”
And the whole… “Grantaire, honey, I know you don’t believe in anything, BUT THEN WHY ARE YOU HERE???”

EXCELLENT POINT, @KATE. Prose ought to be a reflection of character, not just pretty wordplay.

Well look at that, @Kate. Two minutes late and YOU BEAT ME TO THE GOOGLE DOC SPIEL. *wanders off muttering about timing*

Sarah Baran replied to the topic Go crazy with prose in the forum Announcements 7 years, 7 months ago
@Noahlitle If you put the draft in a Google doc, there’s a big blue “Share” button up in the top corner. Click on that, and it will give you a shareable link which you can copy-paste here.
I’m super excited to see what you come up with! Prose aren’t exactly my strong point, so this is a fairly educational process to watch…
