Yes! and you’re absolutely welcome for that, Neasa. I have a haunch Avin and Lorcan might be more similar then they seem. Girlio, I laughed. Literally laughed aloud. DO YOU KNOW HOW SELDOM I DO THAT AT MEDIA?
Also…Lorcan must be an ingratiating person to keep around…not to mention dangerous. 😀

Eeee loved how you made Lorcan introduce himself! So sarcastic and emotionally detached – so accurate!
Oh you are so right this will be FUNNN! I’m so hyper just thinking about this heehee
AAAGH what the heck how is your chapter so goood! You described Lorcan perfectly! EEK! I could barely contain myself while r…[Read more]

@e-n-leonard you catch on fast. That was a great post! Jade Nightengale is a beautiful name–also, she is going to be fabulous in here. 🙂
@irishcelticredflowercrown Isn’t it funny how any time Lorcan comes close the whole room suddenly focuses it’s attention on him?

As for my WIP, the working title is Lost City of Dragons – I tend to abbreviate it to tLCoD. Another working title is Brand of the Crypt – I hate the title though. 😑 It is SUPPOSED to be a standalone novel, but it’s also kinda a trilogy? I want it packaged as one volume, but at the moment it feels like it has three climaxes, so, I…

“Jade Nightingale,” she replied, glaring at his bold, proud gaze.
Suddenly another form emerged from the shadows, and with the tail of her eye Jade caught it leaning against the wall. She turned toward the fellow, who cocked his head just like Rosemary sometimes would, but there was no absentminded contemplation in his look, only coolness and des…[Read more]

Avin
He looked away, suddenly unaware that the girls were still talking to him.
There was a man leaning against the wall ten feet away. His posture seemed relaxed, but Avin knew the tension behind that relaxation. This man was ready for anything. Unconsciously, Avin straightened, detaching himself further from the girls with every muscle of his…[Read more]

There are four of us on Story Embers, five of us total.
Is your WIP a stand alone or a series?

That’s my goal, Inkhorn. I’ve been having trouble with before-character-arc-Jade. Rosemary has been easier and gives me great quote snippets. 😂
Ophelia and Calliope sound awesome! That was a good explanation of their characters. Ophelia and Jade interacting could get really interesting. Jade has a grudging respect toward oth…[Read more]

ahaha I would argue a lot can be said in just a few grunts🤣 this should be fun!
Lorcan
Judging from the boy‘s relaxed position against the wall, one hand hovering calmly near his boot, there was a weapon concealed there.
Lorcan had been trained to notice these things.
He watched as two girls he had never seen b…[Read more]

Avin
Two girls. They had appeared out of nowhere. Avin blinked. They were walking toward him, evidently bent on talking to him. Avin braced himself. Talking to strangers hadn’t gotten easier when he became a duke; only more common.
Suddenly the one with brown hair tripped. Avin took a step forward, but the blonde-haired, graceful one hauled her…[Read more]

I’m back after…eleven days of absence! My schedule has mercifully granted me much needed time. Yay!
Welcome to the Castle! May your time here be successful in diving deep into the dark corners of your character!

Nice to meet you, too, @emily-waldorf and @irishcelticflowercrown (nice tag, by the way!)
Thanks so much for the explanation. This castle sounds exactly like what Jade needs if she’s going to be my protagonist. 😂

Heya Emma! Lovely to see you here!
Rosemary and Jade sound so fun, I can’t wait to get to know them better!
It’s so good to be back yall! Life has slowed down again, which is absolutely lovely and I’m enjoying that.

@irishcelticredflowercrown Hi and welcome back! (though, nobody’s been regular here for a very long time, haha.) But I will be ecstatic to see more of Lorcan! 😀 I would say “I wonder how he and Avin will react to each other,” but they’ll probably just never say more than a few grunts so it will be boring.

@everyone helloooo. I know I have been absent sorryyyy. And nice to meet you @e-n-leonard !! Welcome aboard 😉
Life update – I have moved back home now, dearly missing the UK, but I am working at my old job again so I’m glad about that. I will definitely try to get more regular with this character castle 🙂

Here’s a character castle run-down:
This is where your characters get to interact with others’. You can flex your character by pushing them out of (or into!) their comfort zone, interacting with them outside of the context of your novel, or experimenting with aspects of them that you never see.
The castle itself is just a…[Read more]

@e-n-leonard Thanks for joining! I hope I can stop by with a little run-down thingy for you tomorrow. Rosemary and Jade are going to be EPIC. If we don’t hear from you for a while, we’ll know Jade killed you and we’ll call the police. 😉

Yes, someone was certainly coming.
Two girls appear in the castle’s central room.
“Fascinating,” says Rosemary, ” a character castle.”
Jade notices all the other characters and cringes. Then she stands up straight and glares at them all. Cringing won’t help her conquer the world. At least none of them will try to shake hands if she glares…[Read more]
