Hey guys!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
One more day and 2019 will be here. 2018 will be gone forever. It’s a good time to reflect on where we’ve come from and where we are going.
So, that’s what this thread is about. I thought if might be fun to tell eachother what we accomplished in 2018 and what some of our goals are for the coming year.
Let’s talk about 2018!
I am gonna divide this into four sections, titled:
1. What I Wrote
2. What I Read
3. What I learned
4. My Writing Goals for 2019
Please share as much or as little as you’d like. And what you have to share dosen’t need to be confined to these 4 catagories. Say whatever you want. 😉
Since I started this, I suppose I’ll go first.
What I Wrote:
I didn’t write as much this year as I would have liked but even though it isn’t much I am still glad for what I accomplished.
Flashfiction:
This Moment
Short stories:
Locked (it still needs major help.😉)
The Ten Lamps
I started working on a short story that has no title, and is currently sitting somewhere in the bottom of a desk. I hope to pick it back up soon!
Novels:
I started the first chapter of the first draft of my current WIP.
Poems: I am not a poet…as cool as that would be, I have no talent in that particular area. 🙂
What I Read:
I read somewhere around 26 or 27 books this year. I’m not going to name all of them, but here are a few of my favorites:
By This Sign(his-fic), Fierce Convictions(his-fic), Paris-Underground, Lord of the Rings, Hard Times, Almost Autumn
What I Learned:
Oh my…so very, very much. Especially since I joined Story Embers. 😉
I learned about writing interesting/in-depth characters and how to create a good backstory for them. I learned about handling hard subjects in fiction, about foil characters and about how to incorporate real hope into a story without preaching a sermon. 😉
But the two most important things I learned this year were:
1. I am not alone. Their are others out there who struggle in their writing just like I do. I am not the only one who fights depression and anger and defeat. They are struggling some of the same things I am dealing with. I don’t have to walk this journey alone.
2. My first draft doesn’t have to be perfect. It sounds simplistic, I know. But when I finally grasped this truth…it was a huge thing for me. It has released me from the agony of struggling and striving to reach complete perfection in my writing…and hopelessly failing again and again. I can actually focus on getting my story down on paper instead of worrying about every little detail in the first draft.
My Writing Goals for 2019:
-Finish the first draft of my current WIP.
-Write and edit 5 more short stories.
-Publish a story.
I just want to tell you all, @daeus-lamb and my fellow Saxon Scribes, how incredibly greatful I am for you guys! Thanks for welcoming me and all my craziness into this awesome place called New Wessex. I have felt blessed and encouraged by you guys so many times. You all are a lot of the reason I keep writing. Ya’ll are amazing and I am so glad I know you! Thanks especially to you, Daeus, for being the guildmaster and all the work you put into this guild!
I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for New Wessex in 2019!
Since there is a limit to as many people I can tag, I am just gonna tag as many as I can…
