Okay, this one I just finished. I wanted to write this one ever since last fall but I just couldn’t get -get it! In the end, the fear that COVID-19 created and reading Psalms 46:1-3, 10 and Psalms 56; 3 and 4 that finally helped me get it right.

    Enjoy!

    (Whenever I am) Afraid
The fear is strong and I’m helpless in his face
For his barrage I brace and seek a place
Where I am safe from his fierce rage.

Can SomeOne help, on my behalf interfere?
Who controls these things that I fear?
O Lord, I cry, can You hear me down here?

Though the earth should tremble and quake
The ground beneath my feet should crumble and break
And the land be left rubble in its wake.
Still the Tower Strong stands sure.

    Though the mountains be overthrown
And cast into the sea. Those peaks always known
And loved sink, ever lost under the foam.
    Still the Eternal One remains.

Though the seas arise and invade
The cities. Roaring winds and waves ’round them arrayed
With boiling rage raze with liquid blade.
    Still the Almighty’s in control

    Whatever time I am afraid
    Whenever my heart’s trembling
As forces around me are assembling
    Whatever may my strength crumble
As, faint and anxious, I falter and stumble
Whenever I can look to Him
Who controls these things that I fear.
O Lord, I cry, for You hear me down here!

In this moment fear I must still
And know He is God and always has and will
His children here He watches over ’til
The Ev’rlasting Father calls them home.

In Him Whose Word I will praise I trust, for
He’s exalted high. Man can’t ignore
That He is King. Nations will bow before
Him who’s throne shall ever endure.

    Whatever time I am afraid
    Whenever my heart’s trembling
As forces around me are assembling
    Whatever may my strength crumble
As, faint and anxious, I falter and stumble
Whenever I can look to Him
Who controls these things that I fear.
O Lord, I cry, for You hear me down here!

Can depth or height? Can any strength or power?
Can floods erase or the flames devour?
Can angels part or the demons divide?
Can heaven high or oceans so wide?
Can death or any living thing
Separate me from this Almighty King?

The Lord can help, on my behalf interfere.
He controls these things that I fear.
O Lord, I cry, for You hear me down here!
