    Hey Saxon Scribes,

I barely made this post in time before Monday ended. *blushes*

Along the lines of our annual discussion of character development, I thought it would be worthwhile to camp out on the assassin stereotype for a week and take a deep look at him.

This character type has a definite aura built around them. There are a few different shades within the archetype, but they’ll invariably fit most of these characteristics: sly, brawny, grim, very pragmatic/efficient, almost god-like skill, etc. In other words, they’re cool.

What I want to ask is: “What stereotypes of assassins are clichés and which are solid and sensible?”

Also, let’s ask ourselves some questions to understand assassins on a broad level.

What could make someone become an assassin?
What type of relationship would an assassin have with their employer?
What is the assassin’s favorite part about their job? Their least favorite part?
How do they train for their job?
Who are their best friends (if they have any at all)?
What hobbies/obsessions/tastes might an assassin develop that would really round off their character?
What weaknesses does an assassin have (emotionally/morally and tactically/politically)?
If an assassin faces guilt, how will they reasonably handle it?

If you want to create a character profile based off these questions, that might be fun and maybe the character could end up in one of your stories.

I’m looking forward to your thoughts!
