@ethan-leonard oooh do you want the castle to give them an ultimatum? Like, if they beat him they get a reward, but if they lose…then they have to undergo another heart wrenching challenge!
So then, other characters might join in against the castle even though they’re not terribly fond of Saevus XD

Aww thanks! I’m really glad to hear that I was able to accurately convey that – both in my writing and in my art! Idk exactly what I would describe it as, like I can definitely put a finger on it but idk if I can name it?
…soft brat?
Idk, Basil is just…very Basil XD
Also, I didn’t know you’re an artist too! Are you a digital or tr…[Read more]

@ethan-leonard I think everyone’s had a good chance to go now, so now might be a good time to start Saevus’ rampage!
Also I was reading through the older posts and I just now saw your question about @rose-colored-fancy and I being friends? Sorry this took so long for me to answer!
We are, and there’s actually a pretty cool story behind it! I…[Read more]

@kristina that sounds interesting!
My WIP used to be a lot more dystopian, but that part’s kind of been toned down as the plot developed…although, I still have super soldier character who escaped from a lab…so there’s that XD

@kristina Hi Kristina! That’s so cool that you’ve self published 11 (!) books! What’s the plot of your series?

I’ve never actually seen it! Is it good?
Basil was HEAVILY inspired by one of my favorite characters – he’s set up to be this incredible, intimidating athlete, but then the main characters meet him and he’s just a weird, blunt boi
But I loved him because his school is wildly supportive of him and he was never made fun of for it, and he ended…[Read more]

@when-i-see-the-kingdom ahh I see. Well if he doesn’t have a huge role in the story, it might help to give him a smaller/less detailed description when he’s first introduced! I think characters with really detailed/interesting descriptions tend to really stick with the readers more, so if he’s going to be more of a background character, giving h…[Read more]

@when-i-see-the-kingdom Hello! I have a few thoughts regarding this:
So, personally, I actually don’t think that it’s necessary that authors use character archetypes. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think that this can be extremely helpful for some people, but I don’t think that archetypes make the character. So for example, it’s definitely po…[Read more]

Here’s a painting of Basil!

He has a soft red turtleneck Eli knitted for him – it’s his favorite sweater in all the world and he wears it all the time. He’s probably wearing it in the castle, since I’m guessing he just got sucked in from home XD

@inkhorn yeah, Basil’s interesting to me because his concept is dark and kind of disturbing, but he isn’t self aware enough to realize it XD He certainly lacks awareness, but even if someone were to point it out to him he couldn’t care less. I think that’s one reason why his interactions are so funny to me – he doesn’t know he’s rude/socially a…[Read more]

Alright, here’s Basil’s formal re-introduction to the castle! For those of you who knew him before, he’s changed a bit and really developed (but don’t worry he’s still a socially awkward brat XD)
Basil:
– Tall, (6’3″), super pale white skin, thick black curls. He’s got a very uncanny, almost disproportionate frame – you’d notice it and feel <…[Read more]

Reintroducing an old character!
Content warnings: there’s some lab scenes – nothing super graphic, but my poor boi is basically a living experiment so take that as you will 🙁
Kit:
“Subject 1711 – divulge your deepest regrets.”
“No.”
I turn to my right to see a tall figure fiddling with his restraints. Pitch black curls bounce around his…[Read more]

@jared-williams @e-n-leonard I have one more character to do (this is going to double as his re-introduction to the castle), but after that I’m ready to move on!
I’m going to try to finish his tonight!

calidris replied to the topic Character help wanted!!! in the forum Fantasy Writers 3 years, 8 months ago
Hello! I actually had a similar experience in the last few months – I made a side character who stole the spotlight, and I ended up refocusing the entire story and making him and his love interest the new MCs. It was honestly a great decision, and it really helped to simplify the story and make it more personal (I’ve had similar experiences as t…[Read more]

I wrote this way too late, so it’s not quite as detailed as I wanted towards the end 🙁
As far as content, nothing is mentioned, but it is kind of a continuation for Kit’s first regret, so do keep that in mind 🙂

So this isn’t really a theological question, but I have a writing related discussion for you guys involving modesty.
1 Peter 3:3-4

4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle a…[Read more]

@jared-williams I have a few thoughts regarding this!
So for me personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable writing it, but I don’t think I’d have an issue with reading it, since I know you’re a Christian and you’re dedicated to following Christ (you don’t come across as lukewarm at all XD).
In my opinion, the more prominently God and the Bible…[Read more]

Alright guys, here’s Kit’s entry!
Content warnings: Sooo, there’s mentions of a struggle with same-sex attraction, also descriptions of a friend struggling with alcohol abuse (there’s a few scenes of him drunk)
