So I started a romance and it’s kinda confusing but basically the gist is
Selina goes to spend the summer with her uncle and aunt not thinking that she might have a chance at romance. But as the summer progresses she has not one but TWO ideal guys. She goes out with Steve and as they get close she trusts him and starts forgetting about what she…[Read more]

Yay, I’m so glad my suggestion helped! ๐ And yes, I would definitely want to keep reading! (I’ve read a lot of books from that time period too, so I can totally relate with it becoming your style ๐ ) I saw that you mentioned The Hidden Hand in your introduction thread. It’s one of my favorites too! Your book so far reminds me a lot of…[Read more]

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I do read a lot of books written in the 1800s and early 1900s, and that’s kind of become my style. ๐ I don’t know if it’s annoying to most modern day readers, but I was hoping since the book was set in that historical era, that people’d be okay with it.

Well, @erynne, if your heroine dies, the romance certainly won’t go anywhere. While I can see how you could find some resolution to the other elements of your story, and still have her die at the end, but a romance aborted just before it gets off the ground would be even more disappointing (to me) than one that never really got started at all.
My…[Read more]

@claire-h WOW, thanks so much! This was super helpful.
I think one of my problems was that the Frys where so entertaining that I didn’t want to make light of the guy being shot and missing, and I overcompensated on the melodrama, whoops. I toned them both down a little now. I do want the story to be somewhat realistic, although I do have a fairly…[Read more]

Thank you for sharing your work! I know it takes a lot of courage sometimes. ๐ I really enjoyed this snippet! Great job with the characters …and the mysterious happenings. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fry are so entertaining. XD So here are the few thoughts I had:
First off, this story reads like it was written in the 1800s. Have you read a lot…[Read more]

Thanks for your opinion! When I first came up with the idea for this story, I had no intensions for it to have any romance in it, then as I got more detailed with the plot the romance just kind of slipped in. If that makes sense.
I will definitely consider your suggestions, but I feel I were reading a book…[Read more]

@erynne, it sounds like you have the bones of a fascinating story here–however, if your heroine dies before she gets married, I wonder why there’s a strong romance element in the plot at all. It sounds like the main story is really more of a family drama-type story, where the heroine has to come to terms with what she (accidentally) did to her…[Read more]

Hey y’all!
I’m brand new here but I’ve been writing for quite a few years now… never finished any WIPs, but this time I’m bound and determined to. However, I was wondering if any of you would be interested in reading my “introduction” and first chapter. I honestly am not sure if I like it or if it is intriguing enough for readers to want to…[Read more]

I’ve had to stop reading a few books over the romance in it, and it really upsets me thatย that is even necessary.
What is your romance story about?

hey. Sorry I’m jumping in her late.
I echo a lot of what @writergirl said.
Clean romance is very very important to me, and as a writer of YA and adult Romance I know that sometimes that gets very difficult. Good ways to regulate your romance could be to have a family member read it for you. If that’s not an option for you, then maybe a…[Read more]

I’m kind of hoping that this one gets people to cry. That’s sounds absolutely awful, but I LOVE the stories that make me cry and if I can get other people to cry over my stories it means I’m not doing to bad as a writer. 😁 So it all makes sense if you think about it through my prospective.
I totally agree with you on your views of…[Read more]
