Greetings, fellow Parimi Alcaians!! (<– please correct me if I’m addressing our guild incorrectly)
I’m one of the newbies here. 🙂 And since I’ve already introduced myself in a bio thread, I’ll link it here for any of those who may be interested: https://storyembers.org/forums/topic/a-n-intj-history-buff-narnian-team-cap-me/
Something I didn’t include in my bio above is the genre of writing I intend to specialize in: speculative (fantasy, sci-fi). I’m also into reading thrillers and classical works. My current WIP is about a group of scientists and politicians who are fighting for human clones’ right to life and liberty – namely by proving they have individual souls, because in the future (of my created universe) clones are used for medical/health/mortality reasons. Right now I’m in the outlining/brainstorming stage, and have yet to write a first draft, which are things I hope to improve during my time with all of you fantastic writers. 😉
Feel free to ask or comment! And I’m very willing to participate in Word Wars with you! The only catch I have is that the time frame for the Wars have last at least a day, because of time zone differences as well as my work/life schedule, etc.
One other point to note is that my response time on this forum is from within a day to a few weeks… because life happens 😛 , so I’m letting you know right now in case you think I’m ignoring you. 🙂
For any of the bards here, I have a question regarding a poetry recommendation I read from this article on The Imaginative Conservative: https://theimaginativeconservative.org/2018/11/calvin-miller-the-singer-timothy-bartel.html?utm_source=The+Imaginative+Conservative+(Daily)&utm_campaign=6d04d03299-Today%27s+Essays&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b25fb6fc69-6d04d03299-132503209&mc_cid=6d04d03299&mc_eid=4e38d543ed.
The title is The Singer: A Classic Retelling of Cosmic Conflict (it’s a trilogy along with The Song and The Finale), written by Calvin Miller in the 1970s-80s. It’s supposed to be a retelling of the Four Gospels in free verse form. So 1) Have you ever heard of this? 2) If you have read it, what do you think of it? Plus, here is an Amazon Link for more info and an excerpt: https://www.amazon.com/Singer-Song-Finale-Trilogy-1-3/dp/0830813217/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1543694177&sr=8-2
When I read this from the book preview, I was fascinated by Miller’s ability to free verse.
For most who live,
hell is never knowing
who they are.
The Singer knew
and knowing was his torment.
Anyway, I can’t wait to hear back from you and participate/learn more with you in this guild! 🙂
