    Hey Saxon Scribes!

Sorry I missed a week, but I’m back with our annual theme discussion on characterization, trying to dig deeper and cover a lot of ground so at the end of the year you’ll be better at characterization than when we began.

Since we just had our competition to write the best story featuring a five-year-old’s POV, I thought that the perfect thing to talk about how to write children well, especially when writing about them from their POV.

So here are some questions for us to discuss:

    • If you read through the other guilds’ submissions (which you really should), what did you learn from them that they did really well or that you would try to avoid?
    • How do you make a child childish without making them two dimensional, cliche, or overly simplistic?
    • How do you balance innocence and sin nature?
    • What are the advantages and disadvantages of writing about a child character?
