By Libby Powell
The forlorn girl looks up with a smile
Each time the maple leaves sway with the breeze,
Dancing like maidens of scarlet and gold
For the girl at the window who watches the trees,
Seeking escape from a sorrowful world.
Watching the brilliant frocks each leaf wears
Tremble with laughter in the rustling wind,
The sad young girl has forgotten her cares.
The sprightly boughs wave gaily at her,
Greeting in style the desolate girl.
Noting how weary she looks, the leaves
Skip blithely about and merrily twirl,
Attempting to please their audience of one—
The only creature who still comes to see
The old, lonely maple. Together they make
Two lonely souls in glad company.
Libby Powell is a quiet dreamer who, despite her tendency to timidly step back from unknown circumstances, loves God and seeks to follow Him and keep her eyes on Him every day—a beautiful yet painful struggle that never seems to end. Her life is mostly full of music, studies, laughter, and lots of ideas that half the time never actually stay with her. Some of the things she loves best in the world are quiet, frosty mornings, steaming mugs of chai tea, burrowing down into her blankets with a book, and silence. Living with the great hope of Jesus’ return has given her a passion to reach the nations, including the lost people of her own, with the gospel. Her prayer is that Christ will give her the love and strength to live her life entirely for His glory.
