    Back to it.

Rhioe blinked hard as her eyes adjusted as Logan carried her out of Leona’s house and back outside. The dark gray clouds had cleared a little, enough for the evening sun to shine through a little. Logan’s shoes barely made any noise on the cold stone streets, but it was the only thing to fill the silence. Rhioe couldn’t see Logan’s face from her position up on his back, but she was worried that his eyes were still filled with that fear and pain and worry in them. Back at Leona’s house, she had seen a different side of him. It kind of scared her, if she was being honest. She wondered if that was the way she made other people feel when she was distressed. She shuddered at the thought.

“Are you okay?” Logan asked, and Rhioe realized he had felt her shiver. “Are you cold?”

Rhioe started to shake her head before realizing he couldn’t see her, and quickly opened her mouth to speak instead.

“No.” It wasn’t quite true, as her simple outfit barely kept out the cold, but she knew she had to count her blessings while she could. She had more than some people.

“Hey, Logan?” Rhioe asked quietly, adjusting her arms around his neck. “I know it’s none of my business, but-” She paused for a moment, as she thought her question through. “Why do you always look so sad?”
