@lissie-w

Hi Lizzie,

So how did “Lucy’s” day begin to go south? How did you first begin to indicate something was going wrong?

If a potential reader was walking through a book store and happened to pick up your book from the shelf, and open to the first page, what lines would you use to hook them in to keep reading? Do you have any examples…[Read more]

After a few not quite satisfying starts of my most complete WIP, I finally settled on putting my first scene, POV character into hot water as quickly as possible. The 911 dispatcher was already on the line as the character was in the process of climbing out the window onto the fire escape. I took the advice of Les Edgerton and wasted no time in…[Read more]

Lol.

Mine usually begin like a normal story. Lucy (my MC) gets home and everything is normal.

I am curious, for all my fellow Mystery/Suspense/Thriller Writers out there, how do you begin your stories of this type? Are you willing to share some of your personal examples of your opening lines from a WIP that you use to grab a reader’s attention?

Here are a few that I have used in some stories:

1. Lost, alone, cold, wet, tired and no one…[Read more]

Hi, @jenwriter17

Thank you so much for the information! I had no idea you could search for stock photos on WordPress–I just tried that on a post draft and it’s huge help! 🙂 I’ll have to check out that website for WordPress themes.

Hi, @ashley-tegart !

I purchased by website theme from creativemarketplace.com. It’s a great place to find awesome-looking, more professional themes and the ones I’ve used were fairly easy to install and customize. And as for post photos, I’ve just been using the option WordPress gives to find free stock photos from Pexel. 🙂 Hope that helps!

Hi, @emma-walker! I don’t know if you’ve started blogging yet, but I also use WordPress (hosted through BlueHost). My advice would be to plan a posting frequency that’s manageable for your schedule and plan out post topics in advance (and draft them in advance if you can). Doing this has helped me avoid the panic of “Oh no! I haven’t posted in a…[Read more]

Hi, all!

So I have a WordPress blog hosted through Bluehost and I would like to improve the way everything looks. I have a couple of questions for anyone else who uses WordPress! 🙂

1. Have you ever paid for a premium theme? I currently use one of the default WordPress themes but I would like something more customizable. If so, how did you…[Read more]
