Hey guys,
So I figured it’d be nice if we could demonstrate some of our ideas in action- also, I had some characters I really wanted to write. Thus, I made a thread for if anyone wanted to write a short story for a particular concept they had, and wanted to show how it might actually look in the setting. Kind of like beta testing; if we see…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose started the topic Lesson 21 : Subplot Suspense – That Side Character in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 9 months ago
Have you ever read that book where you kept reading and there was this one subplot character that you just could NOT work out? The rando who turned up to offer wisdom, then vanishes? Maybe they tag around as a mentor figure, but are constantly off doing there own thing behind the scenes? Two very different examples of this that I can think of, are…[Read more]

Hey, everyone! I was just thinking of all the guilds and how we now have a badge, or coat-of-arms-of-sorts, and I was reading through our Parimi Alca backstory. Well, it came to my attention that I have never seen or heard of us having a Creed of any kind. Does our guild have a Creed of its own? If not, do you think we should? I was thinking of…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose started the topic Lesson 20 : Pacing to the Paragraph in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 10 months ago
Today, we’ll be looking at pacing in your paragraphing. This kinda leads on with our last lesson as it is to do with structure, but it is still quite different.
When you write, you’re trying to write in the way that the reader feels. This textual structure will result in the readers being manipulated into feeling a certain way. Short…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose replied to the topic Lesson 19 : Chapters in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 10 months ago
@julia Yup! That’s a good analogy!
@steward-of-the-pen All great points, and definitely true!
@sarah-vdh Typically? If you move the first paragraph of the next chapter into your last chapter, that will fix it. If it doesn’t, then maybe that chapter was meant to end on a dramatic note.

Hello Parimis! Apologies for not being around for a while, I’ve been out of the country and when I got back I found out that my mother was in hospital, so that shook things up a little. (She’s fine now, just had a moment or two that had everyone panicked.) But yes, I’m afraid that has meant I’ve been somewhat neglectant of you guys, and that is …[Read more]

So I’ve now got the actual tagging list from Jess. Apparently the one I’d found on a random recent topic wasn’t the right one and I ended up tagging some old guildlings and whoops, my bad. 😛
Anywho–great job to all those who’ve been putting effort into this! I’m going through and sorting through a lot of the comments at the moment, but it’s…[Read more]

Apparently I got confused at some point and your guildmaster…has not returned yet (she’ll probably be back tomorrow), so I thought I’d whip up a quick lesson for this week in her stead.
